Before I spend the $$$ for the "latest/greatest" version of Garmin's Navteq maps, does anyone know if the 2008 version that Garmin et al have for sale include things like the completion of Demott, Wynridge, or even the rest of Ashburn Village/Wynridge (e.g. the Exit 6 overpass).

I received a NUVI for Christmas. The latest software version available is 4.20 with map version 2008. This version DOES NOT show the completion of either Demott or Wynridge and the connection to the Greenway overpass at exit 6. It would seem Garmin is still a bit behind. Hope this helps [IMG]

We have one and have used it to get from Broadlands to the new Landsdowne shopping center, our vet in Purcellville, a friend's house out by Snickersville Turnpike, etc. and it's had every road. It lost satellite signal on Snickersville Turnpike some, but not much. We've been very happy with it, but I'm not familiar with the areas you listed.

Which model and vintage of maps? I have a lower end Nuvi with the 2006 or 2007 NAVTEQ maps, and a fair chunk of newer roads are missing or inaccurate. Stuff that has been open for at least 2 years.

How many folks have invested in GPSs? Any suggestions on the best ones, and best features to look for? For that matter anything that is a useless feature?

Afgm - we have 2 - however both are factory installed...as a general observation we hated the factory one from Jeep - traded that in for an import SUV and it's ok - our german car has by far a much better factory GPS.

However if I could do it again I will purchase an after market, less expensive and more flexibility. I like the one in the hertz never lost systm (I think its a garmin)

I've got one of the LG ones. It's a peice of junk. The screen gets washed out in the sunlight and the voice navigation volume is so low it's hard to hear at highway speeds. I would not recommend it.

I just don't understand why all of these new portable gps units have mp3 players and picture viewers. Just not needed.

For our area the tomtom maps are very inaccurate. The good news with tomtom is that with the new tools users can fix the maps themselves and update them. Probably the best feature they have. To bad the starting map data is so bad.

The garmins are generally regarded as the best out there but...

I've played with a few mio's and I have to say if I were to buy another gps I'd just get a mio. They are a lot cheaper as well. They have been really improved over the last year and the new ones are amazing. Plus I believe they are offering map updates for really cheap. LG is going to charge me $150 for the map update and its already out of date. The mio's are not quite as polished but they work really well and the map data is the same as the garmins. The routing engine is pretty good as well. As I said though, not quite as polished as the more expensive models (a little harder to use) but they work well.

We recently got a 2008 SAAB Convertible, and it came with factory NAV. It's been pretty accurate, and it's got all of the Broadlands mapped accurately. However, it does not show the new Exit 6 off the Greenway. I guess our car missed the cut off for that before it rolled off the plant in Austria.

SAAB uses the NAV system now found in most GM models with the exception of the one in the brand new Caddy CTS. So, anyone considering a new GM car should get accurate coverage in our area.

FYI, I just upgraded to the 2009 Map Release for my Nuvi 650, and all the roads/exits mentioned above are included in the update.

I have the Garmin 550c (or is it c550). I have updated to the latest map release and also have all the roads/exits.
