Anyone know when Adelphia will start offering HDTV to its' Loudoun customers?

If so, what will the pricing be? Also, Will the HD cable box have a connection for use with an OTA antenna (act as an HDTV tuner for OTA signals)?

I have been pestering Adelphia for months to give a "cutover date". All I get is "soon". Pricing will be dependant on your current package, with the HD box at $8.95

One customer rep told me we were to get the Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8000HD, which is also a HD PVR (tivo). That would be sweet. While another rep said that we would get some GI (general Instruments) box, with no PVR. The PVR would then be a separate box, but not HD.

Until it's released, and installed, I really don't believe much of anything from Adelphia

I hope the 8000HD is better than Cox's offering of the 8000 in fairfax, because it is horrible. My friend has the 8000 in NC and it's so much better -- I guess just software differences.

Anyways, I'm wondering if Adelphia will have the local HD channels in unencrypted QAM... that would be awesome... I could get a PCI tuner for my HTPC, and ditch my OTA antennas

Called Adelphia today @ 1-888-683-1000, and HDTV is now available!!! They require a tech to install the HD receiver for you (cannot pick up from Adelphia and self-install), so the hard part will be scheduling a time for them to come out.

They are currently only offering NBC, CBS, and Showtime in HD, with HBO available "soon."

Don't believe the box that is supplied by Adelphia has connections for an OTA antenna, i.e. act as a tuner for OTA HD signals. Although, the rep I was speaking with was not too sure.

I just got off the phone with Adelphia and asked about the pricing plans for HDTV. They have some *really* good package deals. For example for $105/month you can get Powerlink internet access and an HD cable reciever (which receives all major local channels in HD (NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX) as well as 1 pack of premium movie channels in HD). Thats a really good deal, considering you don't have to install any extra antenna's or buy an expensive HD receiver.

I currently have DirecTV and am having problems justifying spending 500 bucks for a HD receiver that can only receive a handful of HD channels, but *not* our local channels in HD.

The hardware for the HD receiver Adelphia is rolling out to us is Motorola.

    Anyone out there have it?

The Adelphia roll-out is just laughable. CBS, NBC & SHO only and no PVR. With my OTA antenna and MyHD card I already get CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS and FOX WS with PVR capabilities. I've given up on waiting for Adelphia. Moving to Voom so that I can just keep Adelphia for Powerlink and dump the rest of their programming. Voom has nearly 30 HD channels and OTA capabilities, it's not worth waiting for Adelphia.

FYI -- My understanding is the box is the Motorola DCT6200 or DCT5100. Neither appears to have an OTA antenna input.

    Ugh.

Did you (or anyone) ever get VOOM? How do you like it? Is it worth the extra expense (especially since where we are we're still going to need to pay for Openband). We're just sick of the yucky signal that's even more noticeable on our bigger TV.

Pros? Cons? Other options? Any info would be great!

Has anyone had the Adelphia HDTV service installed? Was curious on how it compares. We recently got an HDTV ready TV and are interested in trying it out.

Yep, I've been watching HDTV since 1998. In 1999 I called Adelphia to find out what their plan was and again in 2000. They didn't even know what HDTV was and tried to sell digital cable to me. At least Dish and DirecTV were available for me at the time. I'm very happy that Adelphia is finally rolling out HDTV in 2004. Now, I'll prolly only have to wait until 2010 for business class broadband from them. [:p]

I recently signed up for Dish Network and bought their 921 HD-PVR. I added a $45 TV antenna from Best Buy (in my attic) and now receive the local HD broadcasts (NBC, FOX, ABC & CBS) along with Discovery HD, HD Net, HD Net Movie, ESPN HD, Showtime HD, HBO HD and two HD pay per view channels. Picture is amazing on my Mitsubishi and I can record up to 24 hours of HD programs or 180 hours of standard programming. The box was not cheap at $750 but it has everything and allows you to hook up an external antenna to receive the local channels.
