What are the roads like this AM 2/22?

How are the roads around Broadlands and beyond? I'd LOVE to venture out of the house but am wondering if it's slippery on the main roads, if they've been sanded (much to Phitnessfiend's dismay) and how dangerous it is out there.

 

Roads when I left my house at 7am were wet......not icy in the least bit...think this whole thing was overblown IMO......

 

Roads seem to be just wet, even the side roads.

 

Only sliding was getting out of my parking lot going from Broadlands to Chantilly.

 

At 8:45 non-asphalt surfaces were iced. The roads are wet, the car said the temps were pushing 35, WeatherBug reports 30.

Wunderground shows a large cell of precip (at 9:36) about to hit Charslton, WVA, but it's rain. Looks liek it's headed for us - depends on where the freezing line is as to what we get.

 

Broadlands to Springfield via FFX PKWY - roads wet no ice. Traffic is light.

 

Just went from Broadlands to Tysons at 9:30am, was fine. Sleet is coming down however, you can hear it hitting the windshield.

 

Now, this is cool, and I think very new as I do not recall seeing it.

got to www.wunderground.com, type in your zip code. Now, under the little local radar picture, click on "WunderMap". It superimposes precipitation & temperatures over a zoomable Google Earth map.

 

My husband said that the Greenway was ridiculous on the way home from Leesburg (last night) - ridiculous in the sense that there was a WHOLE lot of salt just layered on the roads. I know they should pre-treat but he said it was pretty excessive.

 

roads are completely fine, i don't understand why everything (schools, people not coming in to work) is shut down today. it's deserted out there for a little cold rain.... pretty creepy

 

well, glad to know we can rely on a forecast given 6 hours prior to weather hitting us
for dog walkers, some of the sidewalks were slick in patches...most of the black-top trails are fine

 

Don't forget about northern & western Loudoun County. Most times, cancellations are done based on the conditions out there. You remember Western LoCo, the hilly areas without a hospital nearby?
