folks- this place was unbelievably wonderful- fresh FRESH ingredients and so much original flavor. i thought it would be like Mediterranean fare (think Mezza Grill, Lebanese Taverna) but it was quite different and really delish. when i was looking up afghan cooking online, i read that no one leaves and Afghan table hungy- EVER. it's true.

and because the food isn't fried or greasy, is full of fresh herbs, beans, excellent cuts of meat, and seasonings that aid in digestion, like cardamom and fennel- you don't feel loaded down and gross after a meal here.

this place definitely worth checking out- the lamb stew, chicken kabob for the kids, I could go on- but it is all fabulous in an upscale atmosphere.

AND- they had desserts that they make fresh on the premises- amazing rice pudding with ground pistachios...mmmm, as well as gourmet choclate cakes provided by Cafe Rumi. I don't have to tell you where to find coupons for both... ahem.

    enjoy your meal!!!

Went Saturday night with neighbors...very good and I recommend!

Nice Purtugese wine, but too full for dessert.

save room for the elephant ear next time- it has crushed pistachios and a lemony sugar over a light puffy pastry- it's not heavy i SWEAR and drinkt he hot cardamom teas with your meal- you won't feel so full afterwards.

OH! their lunch buffet is Tue- Fri and only 9.99 all you can eat! soooo worth it.

    redon1 and others--

Silk Road is one of the few place we have NOT tried yet. What is the food like for kids at lunch? Do they do a nice lunch portion on the buffet--1/2 price for kids--as most places with buffets?

Maybe we will check it out this week. Thanks for the info.

i believe they use some organic ingredients foodie!!! tell them about your club- Mariam is the owner. anyway- we paid full $9.99 for the buffet for out 9 year old- but he ate 3 plates full so it was warranted. i would ask the waiter though depending on your kid's ages.

the buffett is all you can eat- there were vegetarian dishes like a sweet spicy cabbage that i loved, spinach, potatoes, vermicelli, and meats- oh so good: chicken, beef, cooked to a tenderness that can't be forked! no desset or drinks in cluded- but you know what? it ain't about the price- it's about how excellent your meal and experience will be.

the value is there- i would pay MORE for their food.

    redon1--

Thanks for the input. I don't always use organic ingredients when I cook; but as much local foods as I can and what we produce for ourselves on our farm.

We will probably go tomorrow or Thursday depending on weather conditions.
    Glad you are feeling better--

Add my thumbs up for this restaurant. It's a step above Mezza grill as far as food quality. However, the quantity is smaller and the price is higher as well, so I probably won't head there very often, but it's definitely worth an every now and then trip. The owner was very very nice.

Edit - We headed there because of the advertisement in one of the magazines, however when we got there we discovered the 2 coupons we brought were only good on Monday through Thursday. Not a big deal, but something to pay attention to :)

redon1, I agree on your assessment of Silk Road. It's absolutely great. Also, if you go, follow redon1's advice, and get the Elephant Ear. Very, very yummy!

I agree. I really appreciate the smaller portion sizes. I was raised to eat everything on your plate and still do to this day. The portion sizes at some restaurants is just insane, so Silk Road was a welcome change.

I like small portion sizes for a meal as well, but being able to eat leftovers for lunch the next day always makes a restaurant more attractive. Callaloo is great the next day :D

Now that's the truth! We haven't been to Callaloo in over a week. I'm feeling the urge for fried dough!
