59 workers were arrested at Lansdowne resort yesterday and charged with illegal immigration status...

    http://www.loudountimes.com/news/2008/apr/08/59-arrested-illegal-working-charges-lansdowne/

Anybody know more on the story on this? Know someone who works at the resort who might be willing to comment? Someone who lives nearby and saw something? Just want to put in your two cents? Please get in touch :) I am looking to do a follow up.

    Thanks!! :);):p

Elizabeth... as a suggestion, make sure to verify if all 59 employees were working under fake documents. I think this factor is very common in this area (any many others) and is the process that many illegal workers are taking (I think). Documents such as a social security card, drivers license, and green card are purchased on the streets, shown to the employers... and then they get to work.

What is not clear from this situation is - how long were these worker employed before someone noticed a problem? What is the employers legal responsibility to verify this information (through the Feds I think). I believe that the basic step they are supposed to take (Landsdowne) is a SSN verification. That take a couple of days. THEN you are allowed to work. I think we must insist that the Government (Feds) do a much better job at making the verification process accurate, quick, and convenient for all employers. But if Landsdowne was lazy, then they squarely deserve adequate blame.

    Just 2 cents worth...
