we walked over to the new "park" by the marsh across from harris teeter in southern walk yesterday. it was really nice! they did a great job putting the path together and we got to see a lot of interesting birds, turtles, etc. whoever put this together did a really nice job.

one question/suggestion...is it possible to get some of the dog poop stands over by the pathways on these (by the grass, not the wooden pathway)?

    thanks!

This was done by Van Metre as part of the commercial development that will go next to it. The naming will take place during the May 3rd community event at the Nature Center. There will be voting to choose one of the names that will be suggested. I did go down with my kids recently too. It is nice and relaxing. Observation of wildlife does happen for sure while you sit on the benches.

I agree, this park and walk are very nice. I have one concern....Getting to the park can be challenging. There are no paths or sidewalks down Demott Dr. Also the sidewalk on Wynridge ends at the SW Marketplace. Walking through that parking lot with kids is very dangerous, especially around the McDonalds and Taco Bell.

Are there any plans to put sidewalks along Wynrdige and Demott Drive??

On Wynridge I asked VM about this last week. Van Metre had been attempting to put a sidewalk along Wynridge but the county and the state cant seem to agree on the right of way issues. It sounds as if the county is the road block here, as VM plans to maybe take another run at the sidewalk with the state once the county lets them off bond.

I agree walking through the parking lot is ridiculous and I wrote to Stevens Miller the other day to see if there was anything he might be able to do to get the county of their "backside".

Once a kid or for that matter an adult gets run over thenmaybe the county will see the light. Its a shame that VM is willing to put in the sidewalk but the govt agencies are blocking their effort.

It's a bigger shame that this sidewalk was not in the original plans for the shopping center.
Part of their marketing of the shopping center is easy access for residents to get to, yet no sidewalks planned. Duh!
They also didn't put lights along Wynridge either. That's a dark walk!

We had a great time at the "park" today -- the biggest hit of the day was watching the seven goslings! I have to echo the access concerns -- getting there by bike is risky at best. The choices are limited to riding in the street (Wynridge and Demott), riding through parking lots, or walking your bikes for a good portion of the trip. None of which are particularly good choices.

Trying Demott back to Waxpool and then Claiborne, we were stuck with another dilemma: crossing Waxpool at Demott (which was pretty busy) to get to a sidewalk or walking our bikes in the grass along Waxpool to get up to Claiborne. With two kids, I chose the wet, muddy grass route as opposed to trying to cross without a stop sign or light. Any info if there might be a sidewalk added to that portion of Waxpool?
