    Fellow Foodies--

Seeing the thread about Del Ray Mexican Restaurant in Broadlands made me want to tell you (if you do not already know) about a great Mexican restaurant that opened recently--about 3 to 4 months ago--on Route 7 in Sterling, VA area. The restaurant--Mexican Garden Restaurant--is located on Cedar Drive in Sterling at the the NEW brick building next to Cedar Lakes Shopping Center by Grand Mart in Sterling.

I do not know their web site however. Just Google info.

If you have been out west to Tucson or New Mexico areas for REAL Mexican food, you will truly enjoy the Mexican Garden Restaurant. The owners are very customer friendly, staff welcoming, and the food is fabulous! The waitstaff prepares fresh guacamole with a pestle (pounder) in a mortar bowl. Great margaritas, etc. Prices for families is fair and price conscious. The guacamole that is prepared for you at the table is around $8.00 but worth it for the first time to try.

The restaurant is located next to Cedar Lakes Shopping Center (Grand Mart) and is at the BACK of the tall office building. Great service not to be missed! You can see the large banners advertising the restaurant on the front of Cedar Drive and Route 7.

    Good eats--

Went last night. Good prices, good food for the most part. Food was slow to come out but place was packed. They kept the salsa, chips, and the drinks coming at a good pace though. Guacomole was not impressive at all (especially for 8 dollars), but I have a good supply of homemade guac so I'm biased.

Meal was excellent, waiting was excellent, I expect the food to get faster as they're open longer. It'll be my default place for Mexican I believe.

    Grahamiam, Lee, and Fellow Foodies--

We are glad you are trying the Mexican Garden Restaurant.

Grahamiam--Yes, I agree $8 for guacamole is expensive--I make my own just as good. Great food and service though.

Lee--Let us know what you think since you are from Texas. I think Dalyn will enjoy the food as you will yourself. We went there recently and enjoyed the food with family and friends. Actually, Lee, who knows maybe we will see you there tonight? Yes, all 8 of us!

If you go before 5 pm, you can get in easier. Also, I believe that Mexican Garden has instead of a "Frequent Diner Discount", they offer a FREE Appetizer after so-many visits. Just ask your waiter/waitress.

Our kids loves this place! Very kid-friendly and priced right!

Foodie girl, Dalyn and I went for lunch today and the place was everything you all have been sayings. Just good basic Mexican food very well done and the service was fabulous.

It was only half full at lunch so that will be my favorite time to go as I HATE waiting to eat anywhere. ha ha ha ;)

They said they were packed beyond belief this last weekend, which is a good thing and everything was fresh and the salsa was excellent. The service was superb. Nothing really exotic or very special just good old but fresh:) mexican food done very well and at good prices especially at lunch.

    Thanks for the suggestion Foodie

Dalyn said at lunch today when I told her you were going to open an Amish restaurant if you have tried the lazy susan dinner theater in woodbridge which she says has excellent Amish food and is a pretty good dinner theater. Dalyn goes with her sisters on occasion and they love it. Not a chance I am going out with all those girls, I already get enough flack on this and other forums ha ha ha:devil2: Anyway Dalyn said you should try it and wanted to know what you think. She also said you should open a Amish dinner theater out here and she would even help you. I can't get her off this dinner theater thing ever since we went to our first one in Houston which has set the standard for her and she says she has never been to one that good ever since. Of course the Houston one was a major dinner theater with name stars acting so it was on another level then most dinner theaters. :)

    Lee and others--

I am glad that Dalyn and you enjoyed the Mexican Garden restaurant. Sorry that you did not see our "brood"--maybe next time!

Tell Dalyn that we know about the Lazy Susan Dinner Theatre in Woodbridge. Several years ago we went and dined there. It was pretty decent food fare.

The "Amish-style" dinner theatre sounds good; but our focus (especially mine since hubby already works) is to open a Mennonite (similar to Amish) Bulk Foods Store/Cafe in Loudoun and Fairfax County areas. Right now, I am meeting with some architects/designers and "testing the waters" for the business concept. As of now, I am looking to start the business plan as a web-based food business and supply the Bulk Foods and Amish/Mennonite meats, produce, etc. We shall see how it goes. What are your thoughts, Lee? I will post more info on the thread "Area Restaurants..." post called "Opinions of Opening a Amish/Mennonite Cafe/Restaurant..." as our plans come to fruition.

Yes, Mexican Garden is pretty good. Alot better than the Mexican restaurant in Broadlands. Tell redon1 to give it a try!:)

    Fellow Foodies--

Just wanted to "bump" this thread for great Mexican food at the Mexican Garden. We are eating at the restaurant (all 8 of us!) tonight. The restaurant is about 45 minutes or so from our farm; so hubby will meet us there. Great food and kid friendly!

We try to get down to eat here about once a month if possible. Hope to see "y'all's" opinions. Redon1--check out this place. Lee did!

Well, we went back to Mexican Garden; and the food was fabulous. There is a coupon offer for BUY ONE LUNCH OR DINNER MEAL--GET 1/2 HALF OFF coupon for Mexican Garden which we used. We had the Beef, Chicken, and Shrimp Fajitas, #13 Combo Meal, and 4 kids meals. Our quads split the meals and the twins ate some of the Fajitas. Great food.

Always in the mood for yummy mexican food and having read the raves here, I talked a couple of co-workers into heading to the Mexcian Garden for lunch on a weekday. So worth the quick drive East on 7 and figuring out they were on the back end of the building. Some of the best mex I have had in a while and one of my new favorite lunch hangouts since it is much closer to work than home. They were pretty empty, just 4 other groups at noontime so I hope they pick up when people know they are there. I hear dinner is much busier.

Service was attentive and refills on salsa and drinks were brought without asking. We all had a different lunch combos and the table was full of "yums" as we tried each thing. Fresh, hot and flavorful - not your generic chicken and beef flavors that I find bland at many mexican places around here.

We had a good experience there as well. However, on a Sunday evening the place was empty. It is in such a bad location - hard to find.

    Tech Head and others--

Glad you took our suggestion to try Mexican Garden Restaurant. We eat there when we are in the Sterling area. Kids loves their salsa and food items.

Yes, the location is kinda bad; but the food is great!

It is usually pretty crowded on Friday and Saturday nights. Try early dining before 5 pm on the weekends for less "hectic" service. The restaurant now features Mexican musical entertainment on the weekends, I believe.

Good eats--hey, if Lee likes it--it can't be all bad--right? Just kidding--;)

Foodie you are always correct about me ;)

Dalyn and I ate there today for a late lunch and it is still one of our favorites and I hope they keep up the service and quality. :) especially for the price at lunch with that coupon you told us all about where to find. ;)

    Lee--

Too bad I did not run into "y'all" at Mexican Garden today; but we were working in our produce gardens for Spring and Summer harvesting.

Next time you are planning on eating there--PM me and maybe we can meet you and Dalyn. You seem quite an interesting person to know. I will bring the kids. On a sidenote, have you tried my fritters at the Nature Center yet? If not, ask Maureen if there are any left; and if not, I will drop off some other baked goods.

    Have a good night--

Where is Cedar Dr. off of Rt. 7? Can anyone give me landmarks - head east on 7 - is it past Sterling Blvd...before/after Drainsville? The website is under construction so couldn't get more info. there...from what people are saying it seems a little hidden.

Mexican Garden Restaurant is located on Route 7 in Sterling across from Sterling Koons Ford on Cedar Drive which is next to the Grand Mart at Cedar Lakes Shopping Center. The location is between Jennings Farm Drive and Cedar Court.

The restaurant is at the BACK of the Richlands Business Center building (large brick building on left side of Route 7). There is a business called Piano Place in the front of the office building and you will see the Mexican Garden banners in the front grassy areas in front of the brick building.

I think from talking to the owners that they got "cheap leasing" for this new restaurant. Well worth the effort to find.

I ate their two days ago for lunch. Here is my take.

The BEST salsa I have had in a long time.
    Excellent chips.
The lunch item I ordered was a little bland (I don't see it on their website or I'd tell you what it was), but with the quality of their salsa, I know that they make something else excellent.

Let me know what you have eaten there that was excellent. Often, the mexican restaurants that I have gone to make a dozen things really well, and the rest are only ok.

Thanks for guiding my future selections.
