Does anyone have a recommendation for an electrician who can run the wiring and install some ceiling fans? Any help would be appreciated!

Ditto! Have used him twice and recommended him many times. He's a Broadlands resident.

At $120/hr. it ought'a be good. And might add that you clock the time or like us you'll pay $80 for what turned out to be a 15 minute job installing a light. Oh, by the way...he did a GREAT job:happygrin:

Well, at this point I have no idea what the going rate is for this kind of work. Did you feel you paid too much, even though you were happy with the work? I've used Mr. Handyman before and, while they seemed a little pricey, I was happy with the serviceperson and the work done and would use them again. In this case, I have no concept of what the cost would be. The savings on our electric bill should offset some - or so we hope!!

But even at that rate, I don't think $80 was reasonable for 15 min. work. They should have charged $30, and even $50 would have been acceptable. All I'm saying is...whether the rate is competitive or not, note the time and be sure to get an estimate as you would for any contract work.

If there is a recepticle in place it is so easy to install a ceiling fan.... so easy I did one by myself and I know nothing about electricity.

It really is a DIY job if the receptacle is already there

Unless you have a 2 story ceiling like we have in our family room (still need a fan there). We used Kolb to install three ceiling fans in other rooms and they weren't too expensive.

Yeah, we did that ("we" meaning my husband) did that in our old house but our current one has no receptacles in any of the rooms. The people who lived here before us installed one instead of a light fixture over the kitchen table, but that's it.

Did you find someone? We have a similar project as well to install a fan where there is no existing receptacle. Wondering how much you might have spent on your project as well. Thanks!

Uh... we still haven't had it done yet. We're pretty lazy, even if we aren't doing the work ourselves! We'll probably call Breece and see if it can be done for us in the near future. I'll try to remember to post here and give feedback on who/what gets done.

Is it really $120/hr (approx) for an electrician? Thanks!

Original poster here. Would you believe we STILL haven't had the fans installed??? Are the recommendations for Breece still valid? Since it's been a year are there any other recommendations?

Seriously, we ARE going to have it done this spring! We already have the fans, we just need to have them wired and installed.

That's good to know. He helped us several years ago and we were happy with the service. I wasn't sure if he was still in the biz.

A few months ago we called around to have a light fixture installed in our 2 story foyer. TWA Electric Co. ended up doing the job. Other electricians never called back and this company was suggested by another electrician who was too busy or maybe just didn't want to deal with a 2 story foyer. Anyway, they came out the same day and had it done within an hour. Phone number is 703-450-4231.
