Hi all! I am a busy SAHM of 2 in need to get new tires for our SUV. Any good places you would recommend? I'm looking for good prices, good service - fast service. Something convenient (maybe with shuttle service?) as I don't want to waste an entire day (while with the kids). These forums have always been very helpful, looking forward to your comments!

We go to Sam's club. I can get the new tires on while i do my shopping. The prices are good and we have never had a problem with the tires.

We just went to Merchant Tire/Tire Merchant (whatever it's called) by the car wash at Claiborne and Ashburn Farm. Took maybe an hour and a half for 4 tires and a rotation.

yeah Sams or Costco is cheaper than the local tire shops. You can also research what would be a good tire at tirerack.com

If doing Costco, I think you have to replace all 4 tires at once, so if you need all tires replaced I would definately go there. If you go to the one in Leesburg, you can easily shop at Target & Kohls and Costco itself (so if you have to bring your kids along, you have lots to choose from).

Order online, they bring to your home/work and install. You pay a little more but well worth it.

I vote for Costco. I would also check to see if they have any coupon's online.

If they do not have your tires in stock they will order them and tell you when to come in. It is first come, first serve and folks start lining up around 30 mins prior to opening time. If you can go during the week it's better than Saturday's.

Tire Rack is good too. Sometimes shops will let you ship tires you buy from tire rack to the shop and they'll install them for you.

Gill's in Sterling (by Best Buy) is awesome too. You can call them and see. I know they let me bring my own oil for oil changes so I'm sure they'd let you ship tires....

Curry's on Moran Road matched Costco prices when I had to do the SUV. They have both a shuttle and (if you call ahead) a free loaner car. Swing by for a consult first as they do not keep a lot on hand.

However - if you can find a Costco that has a Nitrogen fill rather than air - I'd go there.

I say go to the guys at the Goodyear shop at Waxpool/Smith Switch (by the Ice House). They'll match online prices and seem to be pretty good all around. Merchants off of Claiborne is good too.

Yeah, my brother dropped one of his trucks off to have new tires put on. They called and told him it was ready and then picked him up. When he got there, his truck still had the old tires on it. He wasn't too happy that he'd already lost a day of business and the proceeded to take his business elsewhere.

I heard Costco can't do alignments - is this correct? My car may need that too. Any feedback on Sears by the mall?

They are in way to much of a hurry, and are great at breaking things that are working. I had a dead battery and went there for a new one. Suppose to take half an hour 2+ hours later I am still waiting. They finally pull the car in but so fast they run over a lift and pop one of my tires. They then tried to say it was like that when they got it. In the end only ended up replacing 1 tire (not 2 like they should have for alignment) and not aligning the new tire so my whole car shook for weeks till I could get it else where and get it fixed.

I will never go back again

    krmckee and others--

Since we have 5 cars :screwy:(2 Ford Excursions--large family mobile SUVs we use when each of us has to haul kiddos separately or if family members needs a car when they visit, 1 Ford Explorer--hubby's SUV (which I drive when I have only 7 passengers not 8:scaredeyes:), 1 Mercury Mariner Hybrid--hubby's commuter car, and 1 Ford Super Duty F350 diesel truck for our farm use and for hauling livestock, etc.), so we use either the Ford dealer or Sears Auto at Dulles Town Center. Sears Auto is reliable and very competitive with pricing.

Yes, we like Ford. Koons Ford in Sterling is good for tires also. We do burn alot of gas when we all travel together.:shakehead:

Sears also has a shuttle service I believe. Some dealers will also offer loaner vehicles if you arrange ahead of time.

If you are getting new tires, why do you also need a rotation???

Sears all the way, with road hazard insurance. No matter where you are there will be a Sears. You can go to any of them to get service associated with the insurance. I do the same for batteries, for the same reason. I always find myself needing service while Iam out of town, and Sears is a national firm, obviously. They are always competitive, especially if you watch for sales. They will also match coupons. Curry and Goodyear are rip-off artists. They look for other things to do while you are there. No worries at Sears, all they do is tires, batteries, and alignments, whereas Curry and Goodyear are looking for mechanical issues to jab you with.

Everytime I go into Goodyear for an oil change they always end up finding at least $300 bucks or more of "other things" that need to be done immediately for safety reasons.

Stick to Sears for tires and batteries, and find another reputable mechanic for other issues.

afgm--You are right. With the vehicles that we own, we like Sears. My husband ordered some truck tires online; and he took the truck (Ford F350) to Sears at Dulles Town Center. The auto center installed the tires, aligned and balance the tires, and it was reasonable. He got the tires online because at the time Sears did not have the tires in stock.

    Great place to go.

After the customer experience (flat out lies) we had at Sears - never again.

I've had good success with what was Craven Tire (now Mr Tire) by the Suds car wash in Sterling.

If Mr. Tire is a national firm than you should be able to get the same benefit. Go for it!

Staci, so true! I called Costco this morning to say I needed 4 new tires and his first comment to me was "We currently have a 2 1/2 hour wait". OK... good to know. So I told him I would come back but it turns out they don't have any tires currently in stock that would fit my vehicle. They would have to order them. I asked, and they do not do alignments either. I will try Sears today and post back on my experience. Thanks everyone!

FWIW, all of the shops in Ashburn get bad reviews and are VERY expensive. I only take my vehicles to them for quick fixes (simple oil change, tire patch, flasher out, etc...) Anything else I use a wonderful family owned shop in Herndon (Dranesville Auto Service) even though it's not convenient and they have such a great reputation it's advisable to schedule an appointment.

I just purchased four new tires online the other day and will have Dranesville Auto Service do the work.
