The US is actually 6th if you go by Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

    1 Luxembourg $ 68,800
    2 Equatorial Guinea $ 50,200
    3 United Arab Emirates $ 49,700
    4 Norway $ 47,800
    5 Ireland $ 43,600
    6 United States $ 43,500

Technosapien - I tried! Time for me to bow out of this conversation. But I'll leave with a prediction. The hosptial will get build. It will get built where the CON and Planning Commission says it will be built (the location currently stated on both of these documents), Inova will not like it, HCA will and we'll all learn to live with it.

I agree that it will probably be built. I have a phrase that I use for situations like this, "It is a Babe Ruth". Babe Ruth either hit home runs or struck out.

Dropping a hospital into an existing, upper/middle class subdivision is new territory in this area. (Commercial office buildings have been put into subdivisions with varying levels of success). What I am saying is that this project is either going to become the greatest innovation in community development in the last 10 years, or it will be looked back at with "What the heck was that?" I don't really see how we will look back in 5 years and say, "Well, there were some hiccups along the way, but it is really pretty good". I think that we will be saying, "OH MY GOD!" in either a positive or negative vein.

    Does that make sense?

Mr. Rogers, this hospital is not being "dropped into an existing...subdivision. It's along a major east west corridor, and it has a median divided four lane road before you even get to a house. Clyde's isn't dropped into an existing subdivision. The school admin building isn't dropped into an existing subdivision.

Heck, even the existing zoned office park wouldn't have been dropped into an existing subdivision.

Stop the rhetoric. That would make sense.

If you ask someone who's not familiar with the hospital to read some of these comments they would think it was being built in the middle of a subdivision with houses surrounding it.

That's right. It is actually being built in an area that was planned for MILLIONS of square feet of commercial development BEFORE the first house in Broadlands was ever built.
The problem occurs when the houses are built first.

That is exactly what I pictured when I first heard about this, so my first reaction was to oppose it. Then when I saw where it was being built and considered all the pros and cons, it led me to a different opinion.

The problem occurs when the use of the land is changed from what the developer presented to the purchasers of the houses. Were residents fighting the building of the School Administration building or Clyde's...no.

As I have said before, I don't have a position on the hospital. However, I do find it quite hypocritical that you would tell someone in the same post, "Stop the rhetoric," shortly after you try to make the point that the hospital is not being proposed to be in "an existing subdivision." From your screenname (afgm), I assume you live in Ashburn Farm, so you may not be aware that Broadlands is a housing subdivision, too. :conf2:

I realize that the parties on both sides of this issue will just keep on sniping at each other likely another 212 pages of posts. However, a hypocrisy check is called for...

And your point is??? Re-read the context of my post.

We're talking about the rhetoric that portrays the hospital as being "dropped into an existing subdivision". I contend this is an untrue statement and is deliberately misleading. You're free to believe what you want, but you're not changing my mind.

When I said, "I realize that the parties on both sides of this issue will just keep on sniping at each other likely another 212 pages," I didn't expect that you would prove my point so quickly! You've stated that "you're not changing my mind." So, that just proves that so many people on both sides of this issue are not going to change their views no matter what the other side says, rational or not.

:hijack: ALERT just to make a point.

So, Mr. Sniping Hypocrit Jr., how do you feel about the surge being successful at this point?

Uh...actually, yes. There were residents who fought the School Admin building AND Clyde's.

And now I will return to lurker status.

    Clyde's...yes there were!
    Some of the reasons given:
    All the noise!
    All the traffic!
    Late hours!
That land wasn't supposed to be a restaurant!
They serve alcohol! Drunks will be cruising our streets!

School Admin, no. I'm assuming partly due to the fact that there was no public input sessions required.

Isn't this reason enough to build the hospital? With all the drunks from Clydes, they could use a hospital that is real close.
