I have several used (some new) textbooks from our days in college (years ago). I'm finally willing to part with them, but don't want to throw them out. Where can I donate books like these? Some of these are foreign language textbooks.

Also, what about regular books (reading books)? Does the library accept gently used book donations? Some of the books are paperback.

    Now, here's a kicker...what about foreign language books (non-textbook)?

    Thanks in advance!

Not sure if you were looking only to donate, but you'd be surprised at what you'd get if you tried ebay.

Go to http://www.bigwords.com/ and you can research how much you can sell the books for. If the books are not of value (they compare resellers and diy like half.com and amazon) there is a link there to donate to Better World Books.

This site was a great reference. Unfortunately, the textbooks they'd like for you to donate should be published after 2001 (mine are not). Plus, the novels I have are in a foreign language so I don't think they would help either. I checked out their buyback program and my books are fetching a whopping $.01!

You could give them to the Salvation Army or Goodwill or someplace like that.

Goodwill doesn't pick up in our area (yes, I know I can drive over to Sterling) and the Salvation Army will only pick up a few books. They won't take a crate of books for example.

We tried to donate to GSA this past weekend and they weren't ready for drop-offs yet.

Sorry Bigwords didn't help. I've used it alot for my daughters' textbooks - both purchasing and selling. Anyone with a college student should try it out, it cuts out alot of the surfing for best prices.

Huh. That's weird. There is a Salvation Army store in Leesburg off Cardinal Park Drive. You probably could just box them up and leave them by the drop-off door. Or you can try Freecycle.org.

The Cascades Library in Sterling has a continuous book buy back/donation box. You might want to try that.
