Yea, I agree with Hornerjo; that list is for rolling out the 'infrastructure' that homes will eventually tie into. If they roll out fiber in Overland Park during the month of August, I'm sorry to tell you that you probably won't be able to get FiOS installed at your home until at least December at the earliest, once they finish lighting up that segment, installing infrastructure and completeing testing...

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(

Verizon is supposed to start the work on our street this/next month. What are the odds that they trash our underground sprinkler system, even if we mark where the lines are??? The representative from our sprinkler company said that happens quite a bit. :rolleyes3:

Ouch! I used to get 6300/365 for years, then about 6 weeks ago I started getting 13800/1085. I made absolutely no changes other than to sign up for comcast TV service back in October. I actually enjoy my speed now and can serve up my webpages quicker on other ports....oops, I mean access my home network from the internet. We're not allowed any servers.... ;P
But Im still waiting for FIOS. What is DD that some are referring to?

Hehehe, that's an ongoing joke around here. What will make it to Broadlands first, FiOS or the Dunkin Donuts franchise. Looks like FiOS is actually up and running at some Broadlands homes but we're still looking at construction in regards to the Dunkin Donuts building :notfunny:

I think Comcast knows Verizon is about to take a lot of business from them and are getting creative to try and keep their existing customers...not long ago they did some sort of upgrade down the street which caused my download speeds to sky rocket and my HD & digital channels are coming in much better now. I also swapped out my HD DVR box at that time and since then I've been getting every single premium channel at no extra charge...heck, as long as I'm getting that I'm happy with Comcast. --I like competition, good for us--

LOL, ya, my wife gives me a daily report on the DD status. In our case, DD will be here before FIOS...... grrrr.

I live on Arbor Glen Court and I got a notice on my door today from Verizon about installing fiber on my street on August 4. The notice includes this text:

"Please note that the placement of our facilities may require open trenching across your driveway. If the utility easement is within four (4) feet of the sidewalk edge, we will repair your driveway with one of the below methods once the installation of our network is complete.
    Method A - Asphalt
    Method B - Concrete
Please select your method of finish to your driveway by choosing one of the options above.
    ...
If it is determined that the easement is beyond four (4) feet or existing utilities prevent placement within four (4) feet of the sidewalk edge, repairs will be made utilizing the latest asphalt repair technologies ... "

Is this a normal notice? I don't know where the easement is on our property but we don't have a sidewalk and we don't have an asphalt driveway. Our driveway is concrete.

Has anyone had issues with this before?

On the positive side, I can't wait to get FIOS! Maybe by January 2009?

    --- John B.
P.S. Somebody needs to teach their notice writer about proper word usage. I cringed as I read it.

They should be able to shoot under it. I don't know the law in this area, but if its a concern (I would) I'd call the county and see what the options are.

Years ago in Maryland.. a utility tried to pull that with my father's house.. and he parked his car in the driveway blocking them to stop them physically until they came to a resolution :)

Isn't there a house up on Vestals Gap near the intersection with Glebe View which has a concrete driveway and Verizon patched it with asphalt? I think the house has a two foot by 16 foot patch of asphalt across the concrete.

I just got that same notice and am trying to decipher it as well. I have a asphalt driveway with a concrete apron from the sidewalk to the street. I am also on a corner lot and have a grass one my side yard to the street. I fear they are going to want to put one of those ridiculously big, underground housings with the green tops somewhere on that side yard.

To top it all off, I just had my Academy Sealers out here TODAY to seal the driveway.

There must be a way to be consulted before they do anything. Easement or not, it’s my property and I want to know their intentions before they dig. Thoughts?

SoftballChic - What was your recourse? Did they fix it or pay to have it fixed?

    Thanks -

Got our notice today for install on Hidden Pond on 8/8/8.

However, you try to get any pricing information from the website and can't seem to get it. It seems one should be able to input that you want certain services and then it would package it up for you....

I just got a hand written love note from "Russell" with Comcast stuck in my door asking if there was anything they could do to get me back =) they've also tried calling a few times and mentioned that they'll pay any contract cancellation charges Verizon may charge if I want to switch back.

Ask him where he was over the last 2 years when Comcast was charging you more than what you'll now be paying with Verizon FiOS...

You can't stop them, Verizon is coming but if you're polite and reasonable, you may be able to sway their decisions on where exactly the ugly green box will go. But you will have to be around to do this otherwise they will go wherever they want; they mark the location of the box and cable run with spray paint. Hate to tell ya, but corner lots seem to be their favorite spot.
