good montessori school -- and any other good day cares

If any of you are aware of any other good montesorri schools or any other good schools around, please provide your feedback.

Boyds, Willow and Belmont montessori schools are not on my list. I did here good things about Belmont but this is not on my list as my daughter is a picky eater and it would be easy for her if most kids have the same thing for lunch and Belmont does not offer lunch.

I did hear good things about Bean tree (very expensive). Winwood - very big waiting list. Golden Pond -- not a full day day care.

I am looking also for feedback on

    1) Kinder Care closer to Broadlands,
    2) Goddard,
    3) Kiddie Academy,
    4) La Petite Academy,
    5) Montessori school in Sterling on Cascades Parkway and
    6) Herdon Montessori school in Dranesville.

    Thank you very much.

How old is your daughter? Golden Pond offers extended day that goes from 7:00 am to 6:30 pm.

Can XYZ tells the reason why Willow Montessori is not on your list? I am considering sending my kid there. Their staff look nice although the director looks only caring about money.
Is there something else I need to know before I make my decision?

I did a tour to Kiddie Academy. It looks too crowd and rooms are small and messy. I don't know whether they are under construction or not. The teachers look overwhelmed.

For Golden Pond, for two, three, and four , they only offer half day program. Are they good?

Kindercare learning center is an expensive one. Anybody can tell their experience with it, especially the older two?

Beantree is very expensive. It is impressive.

    Thanks.

Unless Golden Pond is making a major change for next year, they offer 1/2 day of preschool with the option for extended day daycare.

We send our son to GP for Kindergarten Enrichment following public school Kindergarten and our daughter to preschool plus extended day. So far we have been very happy with the school and teachers.

    Bram Mom,
thank you for your reply. But I think golden pond extended daycare only lasts untill 1:30pm for two, three, and four. Am I correct? How about their summer camps?

No my daughter started at 3 years old and can stay until 6:30 pm in the extended day room.

I think the summer camp may end earlier for the younger kids. We have only done summer camp with my son and really liked it. They went to the pool 3 times a week with an option for swimming lessons during that time. They also went on field trips every week (Smithsonian, Raven's stadium, etc.)

My daughter is at the Ashburn Village Kindercare. I have been very happy with the infant rooms. Although I can't speak directly about the preschool rooms or teachers, the center is well run with great management.

XYZ, If you are talking about the Goddard School on Rt7, then I cannot recommend that place. Also, they do not offer a lunch program, which is a big negative. My daughter went there for summer camp (2.5 months) this past year. So for the 2.5 months she was there, she had 3 lead teachers. This is an extremely high turnover, even for the summer. Her first teacher lasted a week, and left after she told the kids she "couldn't take them anymore". The second teacher was not a very personable person. Whenever I picked up my daughter at the end of the day, the kids would be outside playing, and the teacher would be standing against the wall reading, not really paying attention to the kids. She also told the kids that if they lied, 'God would not like them anymore', which prompted my daughter to suddenly ask questions about whether God was mean or not. How do you answer that? Anyways, before I could talk to the office, she was gone shortly after that. The third teacher seemed like a very nice person, but then it was the end of summer, and we started at another school.

Speaking of which- we are now enrolled at Virginia Academy, and very happy there. They have a preK and infant daycare there. I don't know too many details about that, so you would have to call the school to get more info. They are located on Rt. 7 (really big church) right after the Claiborne exit.

We were very happy with Golden Pond and their kindergarten enrichment program. Although they only offer 1/2 day preschool, you are also able to enroll your child into the extended care program - which would then allow your child to stay there for the whole day. There was very little turnover for the period of time that we were there.

I don't have anything very negative on Willow. I toured the school couple of times to make sure that I am not missing anything. I did not come across a nice smily face person as soon as we enter school from any of the management staff. Didn't make me feel good.

Both of my boys are going to the Chesterbrook Academy in Ashburn ( close to the shoppers). We have been very happy with them. My boys are 3 & 5, they have been going there for over a year. Their week day hours are 7-6:30 pm. I would recommend that you check them out. Their new principal is also very attentive. Feel free to email or PM me if you have any further questions.

Please don't forget to check out the State Licensing website. This allows you to view any complaints or violations against any licensed day care facility.

    http://www.dss.virginia.gov/facility/search/licensed.cgi

As for the KinderCare on Waxpool in Broadlands, I can not recommend that facility... my 2yr old lasted only 5 days before we removed her from the daycare. If you want details you can PM me.
