As the topic said, we close on our house on the 12th and we have a few quotes for the fencing etc. However come to my surprise I have to submit my modification via mail? and then reviewed by a committee? That meets first and third wends of each month?

Not to sound rude or anything but we have a jack Russell that needs his yard to run around all day so the sooner we can get this done the better my life is since I am self employed and work from home.

Is there anyone I can contact/speed this up with instead of waiting a week and a half to get this approved and then another two weeks to get the fence company scheduled to get done?

You can drop off your modification packet at the Nature center or fax it. It will need to be reviewed at the next meeting (the next meeting is in September I believe). Sorry for the inconvenience.

Not to sound rude, but the HOA manages over 2700 homes. Sorry if our schedule of meetings is not designed to YOUR convenience.
A little checking, such as a phone call or a drop-in to the HOA office may have eliminated this sudden emergency on your part.
Many people submit applications prior to their actually owning a home.

been gathering the other information pre-settlement, didn't catch the part where you guys met and approved this. I thought we had to deal directly with the HOA company. Whats the average turn around time after your meeting for approval?

Sadly you can't really build a house anywhere thats not in a HOA.

    Hurray for politics!

Welcome to the neighborhood! Most people in the HOA, these boards, and this neighborhood are not snide and rude. Your request for fence approval did not seem bad, nor did a response that it might not be possible to rush it.

Welcome to Broadlands. Information regarding modifications including guidelines and the application form can be found on the community website at http://www.broadlandshoa.org/node/49. The application and the required supporting documents must be received at the Nature Center HOA office - 21907 Claiborne Parkway by noon on August 15. The meeting is on August 20th and you can call the HOA office after 9am on the 21st to see if the application was approved. If you have any questions you can call me at 703-729-9714.

No offense - but a lot of us like living in an area controlled by an HOA. Take a ride up Sterling Blvd and let me know what you think about an area not "controlled" by anything.
I think you'll find the amount of "control" exercised in Broadlands is very fair and in a lot of cases less restrictive than other communities in the area.

As far as speed of tunraround - provided you provide all the necessary documentation - your request will be approved at the meeting (which you are welcomed to attend) and you can call and ensure youre good to go Thursday am if you cant attend the meeting.

Just so you have what needs to be provided:

You are also welcome to attend the meeting and you can get your answer right then. You won't have to wait for a letter or make a phone call.

Spud - I would also urge you to review the guidelines as it relates to fences.

As a member of the Sub Mod Comm and most likely will review you applications in the coming days - I find some applications are deferred and/or delayed due to the following:

    1) Lack of information (lot size, demi etc)
    2) Deviations from said guidelines
    3) Stain color (if you choose one)
    4) Request to extend fencing to sideyards - if this is the case I would urge you to attend the meeting on the 20th.

For the most part our Committee tries to advocate for the homeowner, but the above mentioned have been some reoccuring issues that can delay the approval process.

If you get a chance review the guidelines, if you have additional questions give Maureen Burns a call - she is a great resource.
