Has anyone here had their dog treated with acupuncture for pain/lameness? If so, what were the results? We are considering this for our dog who has had a leg injury for about 2 months and we haven't had success with anything else. Our vet suggested acupuncture.

I don't have any first hand experience, but friends of ours dog who had pain and trouble walking had acupuncture done and were absolutely thrilled with the results.

I cannot give an opinion for a dog but we took our 19yr old CRF Birman for sessions with Dr. Grasso and we noticed an overall improvement in his behavior. He had more energy and more sprint in his back arthritic legs.

Unfortunately, we had to discontinue the sessions because he caught a virus at their office. We felt that the long or short term risks of contracting a virus or infection far outweighed the value of accupunture.

I would highly recommend it though.

i currently take our 12 year old "puppy" to dr. grasso for acupuncture. so far, so good. i am not happy to hear about the virus that ktdid mentioned! i've had great interactions with them.

i also can highly recommend someone in vienna. they also do underwater treadmills, etc. and true rehabilitation. unfortunately the car ride not ideal for our pup or we'd go there. if you'd like their info i'm happy to pm it to you.

We have taken our 4 year old dog to Dr. Grasso for acupuncture and we got great results. Another doctor told us he would have to have back/disc surgery and was in a lot of pain. We got Dr Grasso to give us another opinion and she said surgery was too drastic and to try acupuncture - needless to say we did not do surgery and he is better than he was before he hurt himself ( still unknown how it happended, he just went lame in his back legs one day). I recommend it.

We recently changed vets to Dr. Grasso and we love her because she's not an advocate of all these unneccesary vaccinations/shots for dogs! She's more of the natural fixes.
