    Hello,

Have still functioning A/C unit and a furnace (both original.) A/C runs on Freon, which is of course being phased out. Price-shopped around, and the best deal on a good brand comes to $6,000 for the replacement of both. Since I never had to do this before, need an expert opinion of seasoned homeowners:). Is this a reasonable price?

Thank you to all who'll answer in advance!!

I had my York units replaced. 6K is a good price assuming it is similar specs as the one being replaced.

I upgraded to the highest efficiency one for 8500

we've recently went through the same exercise. Townhomes in southern walk. some 2600 sq and some are 2900 sq. all built in 2005 -2006. Neighbor across the street having issues, One capacitor keeps failing, and the other had no Freon left. One with no Freon left. Neighbor with no Freon just replaced HVAC but not the water heater for about 8500 and upgraded to better unit with more seer. Another neighbor near us replace HVAC and water heater in anticipation of moving in a few years. we've gotten quotes from fehr (through Costco), saw a mccrea quote and ars/rescue rooter knowing the units are 11 years old and had to replace some Freon last year and having air flow issues. Fehr was way overpriced, and mccrea and ars were both close.

we ended up deciding on ars to upgrade the AC unit (more seer), replace heater and water heater, new whole house humidifier, wi-fi thermostat and another item I can't remember for 8900. getting it installed on Tuesday.

I recommend doing your research on the AC unit manufactures. found out many make more than one brand name and also found out lennox parts are proprietary and not always readily available.

    Hello-

We own a HVAC company here in Winchester Va & 6K is a great price. What seer did you go with? By chance did you got with 410 freon and not R22? In 2020 R22 is becoming obsolete so 410 will be replacing it. This will be hard for some people who cannot afford to purchase a new system. R22 will not be able to be purchased. So companies like myself are stocking up so we are able to service the customer that may still have this system we can buy them some time. If I can answer any questions that you have please shoot them my way. I can help you along with the process & even install for you!

    Thanks,
    Drew
