Or they feel secure because they're anonymous.

My suggestions would be for the Sherrif's Dept. to ticket the drivers who violate the laws.

Here's a question for you; A school bus pulls up on the road with a median between the bus and you. Do you stop for the flashing red lights or do you continue past the bus?

Thanks for posting this, the reason I ask is that the Loudoun County Sherriff's all stop on the other side of the median and I have yet to see someone drive past one who has stopped. (But, I have seen drivers make a left turn in front of the bus without a Sherriff present)

Redon1, I am sorry you didn't like that color red, I will try to do better next time.

    Have a nice day!

lol thanks thunderchild.... that color DID make my eyes bleed. :)

on topic- many people screw this rule up and it's a pretty BIG fine if you move when you are supposed to be still. i've gone around people who stop for the bus on the divided road when they don't have to... i wonder why the cop would stop unless it's just to monitor things?

Heaven forbid we put the selfish person out of their way... THATS THE WHOLE POINT. And it doesn't cause any damage. But since you would be so concerned - how about a cling sticker instead??

Yet it's amazing how many accidents remain in the travel lanes? Just how do you quantify such an amazing feat? Oh yeah.. cars can't always MOVE when busted. And people get out and check their door, trunk, etc whatever all the time. Great? No - but as I said - what is your alternative?? Do nothing. Well we've seen where that has gotten us.

Well then I think you need to get your car fixed. The rest of us, can trust their car on the flat road that is LCP at waxpool without concern... and I even trust my car's brake on my very short, but steep driveway... living on the edge!!!

    In other words.. myth busted.

Well since the cops aren't there every day.. and since they can't do anything if they aren't.. and since being selfish and rude isn't enough for a cop to bother to write you up... your suggestion would leave us with... hrmm.. NOTHING. Got anything else?

Divided road = you don't have to stop.

Thunderchild... I've taken your concerns into consideration.. and propose a new, safe-from-yourself, version of the proposal.

Let's get volunteers, or even pay some people some minimum wage to stand at the intersection of LCP and waxpool in the morning rush. They will stand on the side of the road - similar to the panhandlers. Then, if someone pulls the 'me me me' move, if traffic is stopped, they can go out and put a cling sticker only in approved areas of the rear window where it won't block the driver's view.

    How's that?

    you are SCARING me.

    :scaredhide:

a scarlet letter is a nice idea in theory but really- nobody should touch anyone else's car. how about if said volunteers chant loudly in unison the color and model of the car along with a YOU SUCK! YOU SUCK! and snap pics with their smart phones??? kind of like paparazzi for sucky drivers... lol

Anything that doesn't directly cause discomfort won't change the behavior. The people feel free of guilt because the people are faceless people they escape from within a minute. The idea that nothing can be done to stop them and they are 'faceless' enables the behavior.

You are entirely correct. The only problem is that this behaviour pattern would qualify someone for this diagnosis...

The World Health Organization defines a conceptually similar disorder to antisocial personality disorder called - Dissocial personality disorder.

It is characterized by at least 3 of the following:

    1. Callous unconcern for the feelings of others and lack of the capacity for empathy.
    2. Gross and persistent attitude of irresponsibility and disregard for social norms, rules, and obligations.
    3. Incapacity to maintain enduring relationships.
    4. Very low tolerance to frustration and a low threshold for discharge of aggression, including violence.
    5. Incapacity to experience guilt and to profit from experience, particularly punishment.
    6. Markedly prone to blame others or to offer plausible rationalizations for the behavior bringing the subject into conflict.
    7. Persistent irritability.

And you wouldn't want to irritate a sociopath, would you? :nono:
