Whats wrong with Adelphia? When I was there is was fast, reliable, and competitively priced...and I haven't seen any stability complaints recently.

adelphia has really come around in the last year+. Really nothing to complain about unless you want something cheaper. But the speed is great, and the reliability is more then acceptable these days.

    I sustain 800k/s downloads easy.

I guess what he wants to do is keep adelphia for internet and get the disk network, his problem is that he if asks adelphia to cut the cable - the price for internet goes up 20 bucks

Unfortunately, such is life. Comcast is coming, if he can wait a few months, there will be major changes happening.

FWIW ... Adelphia is already showing some Comcast cross-overs as they are bringing On Demand programming to the system. This is where you can access movies and TV shows whenever you want, not just when they are programmed for normal viewing.

And supposedly, this is at no extra charge if you already have some of the premium channels they cover.

We have Adelphia for Internet and Cable - Love it - no outages for either, the internet is fast and "in demand" is now a part of cable.

I am surprised we have no verizon already. There is a wireless provider who does wireless and wired in Lansdowne, skynet access.

If cost is the issue, you can ask Adelphia for their lower speed option. It cuts the cost in half, and for web surfing purposes we really didn't notice much of a difference.

We have adelphia internet service and they are fine in the morning but by 4:15 in the evening they are slow as snail poop.
We called them a few days ago and they told us they have been "having server problems" now for a "few weeks" (more like two months atleast)

I've not noticed this issue in my area, and my wife and I share a connection with her VPN to her office. When I get back to my home office to do email invoices, they zip right out, no problems.

    I'm on Marsh Creek.

    Skt8r...

We've been having the same problems. Last night I called Adelphia
and eventually got transferred to 2nd level support. The tech did some pings to my modem and discovered unusually long ping times. He then tested others in my neighborhood and found the same problem. He escalated it to "Network Engineers" and said we should see improvements
    in 2-3 hours.

About 3 hours later it improved tremendously. Pages that used to take a minute or more to load, now load in 2 seconds.

If your connection is still slow, call them about it.

Okay, our connection has been better lately, however we still do not have enough "bandwidth" to make a connection for video-chat with my parents at 8pm on Wednesday nights like we used to...
From all diagnostics, it is at our end. My parents have verison now (in Annapolis, Md) and have great internet connection.
So, we have had to do audio-chat... which is just not the same.
This has been most upsetting to my parents really. It was something they looked forward to every week. They are 80 now and enjoy this so much. Our only probelm is that my dad is getting a little hard of hearing and the lap top speakers aren't good enough, so we got them some cool speakers to hook up to their lappy (for Christmas).... now if we could just get our Bandwidth back up
    :)

Try going to http://speakeasy.net/speedtest and click on Washington DC.

This should let you know how much bandwidth you have available and also might be some insight to any problems you might be having through Adelphia.

Typically bandwidth levels for Adelphia is between 4000-6000 down and 256-768 up.

If your results fall into these levels, then its probably related to slow bandwidth on their end or something wrong with video-chat program you are using.

    Good luck!

Remember.. video isn't just about BW either.. its about CONSISTANT bandwidth. Jitter and sequencing can play havoc on interactive video. Something streaming doesn't have to worry about because they buffer.

But most low end video programs should be able to run fine on these cable modems.. to at least an acceptable level. Maybe check if the app has a speed setting (lan vs dsl vs cable, etc) which would affect the total bandwidth its trying to setup.

As an alternative there is AOL's free* (*need to have and pay for an AOL account) wireless trial in the Broadlands and parts of Ashburn. Use keyword AshburnTrial for more information. But I've been seeing a REAL slowdown in speed durring peak for the last few weeks. This is in addition to random DNS issues.
