'Apparently between 6:10AM and 6:20AM, someone cut a line in the ground and it killed the network for Loudoun County.

They said they are working on it now and trying to find out where the line was cut and who did it.'

    Information comes from DSLReports.

Great, that may not be fixed for awhile depending on the severity. I can not reach my home computer, so its confirmed. Im sure Adelphia isnt the only fiber connection affected. Usually those cuts involve large fiber runs (anything from multiple DS-3s to multiple OC-48s) and since worldcomm and aol are right there too, im sure they are feeling some of the hit as well. All of this assuming the cut was at the Rt. 28 and Waxpool intersection. Looks like Verizon will have to go out and fix this one. Could take anywhere from 6-12hrs to fix. seems about 5hrs are past already since the cut.
Let us know if anyone gets more info.....

Checked with the NOC here and they said no major fiber cuts reported in the area. Could be more BS from Adelphia...

Hmmm, still cant access from work. Trace dies at charlottesville router with a !N. That usually means the route is gone from the BGP tables, or a firewall. In any case, that charlottesville router has no clue where to go to so it stops all traffic there destined to Loudoun.....:(

I just checked with another guy in the NOC and still nothing about a local fiber cut (at least on MCI lines, and with fibre usually being laid in the same conduit, I'd imagine we'd be affected also). The same guy I checked with has Adelphia in Winchester and his service is up.

Yeah... I don't think there was a major fiber cut in the area. At least not that AOL/MCI noticed. And if Adelphia is down this long for a fiber cut maybe they need to reduce the SPOF's in their network.

It's working for me. I wasn't home during the day, so I don't know when service was restored.

Or another way of looking at it....
Total number of hours between Jan 1 2004 thru May 4 2004 = ~3000 hours
Total number of hours Adelphia has been down since Jan 1 2004 = ~15 hours (12 hours for this outage + 3 hours for various smaller outages)
    Total percentage uptime for Adelphia this year = (1 - 15/3000) * 100 = ~99.5% uptime

This is quite an improvement since the horror stories we saw the first couple years they rolled out their Internet service.

Yes, this is true. And this one may not have even been their fault. I did see cable work being done along the right hand side of waxpool as you are heading to Rt. 28, right across from where the Wegmanns is. This could have been part of the problem, dont know for sure. Now, if they can just get me the 3000 download they claim...this 1100 is slow after seeing what Openband is doing for their customers....;)

I have a new IP address/subnet. I haven't tested my speeds yet, though.

I've seen several small outtages lately after a few good solid months. It was down again this morning before I left for work. I've had several outtages lately that only lasted a few minutes (like a router reload or something).

I was down this morning also. I was unable to get out but the modem was synced, so I power cycled the modem and it didn't sync before I had to leave for work.
