For the first time in a VERY long time, there is a major Adephia broadband outage. Based on the recording I received, it covers most of the Northern Virginia Adephia area including Ashburn and Great Falls.

Not sure how long it will take for them to get it back up ... however, as major as it is, I would think (hope) they're working as fast as they can.

It's been up for a long time but I've noticed it's been slow this past week. I've been getting about half the normal speed. Even still, falling back to 128k feels a little s-l-o-w. =(

We're back... but still slow (3-4Mb down vs the 5-6Mb I was getting before last week).

I'm still getting full speed... haven't noticed any slowdowns at all.

Are you back on yet? As of This morning (8/8/05) I am still down. When I contacted Adelphia HSI they informed me that the outage (caused by a cable cut) had been fixed since Wednesday. Since I am still down, they insisted the problem must be at the residence, and thus required a service call, which also means another day off from work for me. Now, due to work sheduling conflicts, I had to call to reschedule the Adelphia service call, and the earliest they could give me was August 17!!

And the initial statement "For the first time in a VERY long time..." is not accurate either. They caused a pretty extensive outage the week before while doing "maintenance" on the servers for our area. I am not making this up, this information came from Adelphia HSI techs themselves. Part of the outage was planned (Sunday 7/24, overnight to Monday 7/25), and then it just remained down.

It sure does stink that Adelphia is our only broadband option at this point (no DSL from Verizon, and their Fiber Optic (FiOs) service is still more than a year from Ashburn (according to an installer in Leesburg).

Adelphia on-site techs are completely incompetent, and their customer service has a problem communicating information amongst themselves. I have, on more than one occasion, received completely conflicting information about the same problem from 2 different phone agents.

I will sure be glad when Comcast finally takes over this operation.

On that topic.. my buddy who lives in Leesburg had a horrible experience getting hooked up with Adelphia. But he is in FIOS area.. he got a flyer in his mail again last week, so he called to see when its available.. they scheduled his install for tomorrow! Tuesday.

So he'll be doing 15meg/2meg here tomorrow hopefully.

Personally I haven't had any extended outtages past this one last of late. Some half day ones tops.

I would suggest powercycling your cable modem and then your router.. Often after a adelphia outtage I need to power cycle to get sych'd up.

I was back up late Wednesday night ... considering the outage was fairly widespread, and you're is the only problem I've heard of, its a logical assumption that it is at the home, especially if you have cable TV and it is working. You didn't say if you had a cable TV signal, but if you do .. then it can be a cable modem problem. As Steve suggested ... disconnect the power to the modem, as well as any router you may be using and the computer. Then power up in that order .. modem, router, computer.

On that other outage ... I wasn't home that weekend, so I missed it. Really didn't notice it however, system was up and downloading mail when I got back.

I don't want to talk about Verizon .. as they have their own problems with tech support. Trying to get a commercial account setup, it took 4 weeks to get the account 'turned on'. Then, the system would not set an IP address for the computer. One tech said, then it must be the NIC in the computer. Against my better judgement, replaced the NIC and installed a 3Com, still wouldn't work. Next tech spoken to, said that we shouldn't be having this problem with WinXP .. trouble is, we're on a Win2K machine. OH .. they sent the wrong modem, need to install PPPoE ... did that ... no luck.

Finally, the last guy did some digging, and had us hard-code a NIC address in the settings for the card .. tada .. trouble is, this took about 5 or 6 hours to get someone who knew what the heck they were doing.
