I had been having a very strange problem where my cable modem would lose link for a few hours and then come back. I thought that Adelphia was having problems with their network, but none of my neighbors would be having problems with their cable modems during the outage.

An Adelphia tech came out yesterday and found the problem. Turns out that when Adelphia first rolled out their Powerlink service a few years ago, the signal strength was too high for the cable modems to handle. To get around this they had to install a device (looks similar to a splitter) that would lower the signal strength in the box that is mounted on the outside my house.

After the initial rollout, they fixed this problem and no longer needed to installed these signal strength dampers. The Adelphia tech came out and removed it and now I have much higher signal strength.

If you got Powerlink service when it first came out and sometimes lose cable modem link or have week signal strength this might be the cause.

    Wes
