Well, we've heard rumors, read stories and knew it was going to happen, but when and to whom Adelphia would be sold to was unknown. Looks like it will go to Comcast and Time Warner. The question is which one will we go to? Probably Comcast is my guess. You guys think there will be growing pains like service outages and so forth? Lower pricing....? Better service? I guess we'll see in the next year.....

I don't see service outages in the future .. in fact, alot of the current programming we're getting is being fed from Comcast, so I don't see a major change there.

Pricing may be different, but I've been through a few cable purchases: here in Loudoun, in Illinois and in Newport News. What I've seen is that you don't notice much of a change for the first few months, then you may see a channel lineup change, as well as pricing adjustments.

Some of the packages that Adephia offers probably won't be available any longer and may be phased out over time. However, in one location, the new company honored your existing plan, and you were not required to change unless you wanted to add something or delete something from your service.

What I fully expect to see is an expanded channel lineup, with additional HD channels included.

Adelphia does a pretty great job on the cable internet system, I have no complaints (other than price). Hopefully comcast/twc will keep it up!

In Tampa, I had Road Runner (before TWC spun it off) and I had absolutely no problems. Except for the fact that you had to run a program that authenticated you on the system, wasn't excatly PPPoE but close. I suspect that has changed now that more and more people are using cable/dsl gateways.

I've had nothing but problems with Adelphia since the "upgrade" to 6mbps. I don't really use them for TV but I don't think it can get worse. TW Cable has been very progressive and if I remember they were one of the first to offer HD content in LI,NY and it was well before Adelphia.

Based on the report on the CNN website, I suspect we're going to wind up with Comcast, as they have a significant presence in the local area, and I'm not sure if Time Warner has any areas nearby.

Closest TW areas to us are North Carolina, Ohio, or New York. I bet we end up with Comcast too. Well...by "we" I mean you since I'm in Openband territory:D

I agree. I too have had problems since the upgrade. What I suspect happened is that they rushed this "upgrade" to make their assets appear more favorable for the sellout, working or no. To date, my best download speed since the "upgrade" has been about 5.5mb, but I average closer to 3.5, and I have the premiere service. Before the upgrade I was hitting 4.5 ALL of the time on the download side eventhough it was capped at 4mb for the premiere.

Yes, we are getting Comcast. TWC does have a presence near here, however, its the HQ and NDC for RoadRunner in Herndon. I am pretty disappointed since I'll still have to pay for cable and ISP service :p

Actually ... TWC is only a shareholder in RoadRunner, they spun it off a few years ago.

Actually, RoadRunner is a now a brand owned and operated by Time Warner Cable. It's been that way for nearly two years now.

We also provide ISP services within BrightHouse network MSOs, similar to the agreement we used to have with Cox. The partnership that was RoadRunner is why TWC is here at all, and why the employees in the corporate offices of RoadRunner do not enjoy the services for which they work.

Sheesh ... when did they become wholly owned by TWC ?? I have seen non-TWC cable systems offering RR !!

BrightHouse (Tampa, Orlando, few other sites) is the only other Cable company we support (to my knowledge). They offer RR and Voip services from TWC. Cox went their own way about the same time TWC took full control.

For anyone interested Comcast WILL let you run servers if you get one of the business packages with a static IP. I think Adelphia started this too but I haven't been able to confirm it with their sales staff. They keep telling me NO. Based on the prices Comcast charges people in Reston it looks like that option will cost about $125 with the single static IP for a 5000/512kbps pipe. There is an install charge of $250 and a one year contract. I don't know if they'll waive the install charge (I would hope so). My fear is that Comcast seems to always be down in the area but I have no first hand experience with them. Has anyone here used them in the past?

Aha ... I was in Tampa when I was introduced to RR ... didn't know that Cox bowed out of the RR system.

Do you still need to use a proprietary logon script or program with RR? One of the issues I had with them was that they didn't support anything but Windows ... if you were using Linux or OS/2, you had to try to find something to do the logon for you. Luckily there were some freeware programs available to do this, but it wasn't easy to find out about them from the company at the time.

No, those were retired before I joined the company in 2000. It is part of the application I was hired to develop and support. Ahh, those were the simple days. Today our team develops the VoIP order management (soon to move to another locale as we don't really do BSS) and activation system and is working to replace the old HSD activation system.
