I think Adelphia switched from using Level3 as their transit provider to MetroMedia Fiber Network (MFN). I just did a trace to some websites and I am no longer traveling over Level3 through Atlanta or Dallas anymore, instead the packets are going through MFN mfnx.net. I also noticed that my ping times to various websites/game servers have dropped considerably - before they were averaging around 250ms and now they typically around 50-70ms.

    Is anyone else seeing this?

    Wes,
I saw the difference last week as well. The difference is they are now routing us out to charlottesville to DC..... and this takes us out to MFN. Im sure they still have the Level 3 service, but the problem was with their links to fort worth and atlanta. I dont know what was going on for sure, but it stunk. Im also getting the 50ms latency, love it for my gaming...:) , but it also took them 2 months to decide to rehome the circuits to Charlottesville. I really dont know why they didnt just connect us up to a tier 1 or 2 provider right from Sterling? Large companies....ugh!

I noticed it also. I'm getting amazing download speeds now, up to 300K/sec. Uploads are still 10K/sec maximum. Pings to game servers have dropped considerable, 80-120ms which is much better than the 200-300ms.

Still no word on CWC and wireless yet. I'm waiting for Jeff to let me know when the antennas are installed on the tower.

    H-Jo,
Do you have any idea what kind of latency they are seeing right now (across the wireless "ether")? Im really hoping to see something from my house to the local loop of no more than 30-50ms. Ive been looking online to see what I could expect but have always run into "each situation is different" on the sites Ive visited. Latency is more important to me than bandwidth , but Id love to have both....:) . Any insight is greatly appreciated....

    John,

Will someone from CWC show up for the next meeting on the 13th? They really need to tell us what is happening and provide a timeline for service, along with cost for the various service levels -- handouts would be nice. I know you're doing everything you can and are constantly on their a**, but CWC is really starting sound very similar to Cox, Adelphia, Verizon, etc. with all their promises and excuses.

CWC is honestly doing their best, believe me - they want to start service as soon as possible. They want to make money, we want their service. Anyhow, they can't begin any form of service until Verizon turns on the local loop - which still isn't until around the middle of this month. And once they do, CWC still has to beta test it, the sign up process, etc. Hopefully there won't be any snags. As you can imagine, it's hard to make any kind of schedule with something like this.

I'll ask CWC if they can come to the next meeting. I won't be there myself (I'll be in class), but everyone else should be.
