They're a good team with a great foundation, just no leadership. They continue like this and Ovechkin is going to bolt this year. He's going into restricted free agency. You tell how frustrated he is. What proven coaches are still out there that could be picked up?

Look at this...Hanlon was fired today. I've heard a lot about Bruce from the AHL. Let's hope he can light a fired under their a**.....:angryfire:

I don't know, I enjoy myself when I go to the games. I think the experience is just fine. I just wish they would win a few games. I've been to Carolina though and they DO put on a big show. Really like those cowgirl cheerleaders. Nice touch!

We need to give the new coach a few games until we start deciding on what he has done. I think a lot of people are going to think that the new coach should win game 1. The flyers are a team that have it together this year, even if the caps lose I want to see them play with some heart.

Also, Semin is day to day. Which is good, imo. Hanlon put him on the ice for too long even though he was just coming off an injury. Now Semin has time to heal and the other players have time to play.

It's not the show, it's the intensity on the ice and in the stands. And it just has never been there for me at Caps games.

My son's favorite team as a kid was the Devils. We'd drive from Carolina to NJ. Like the Caps, NJ has a lame arena and pretty lousy, unenthusiastic fan base despite their Championships. But what made up for this was the fact that the Devils won a lot, you usually got to see Scott Stevens flatten someone and Brodeur was fun to watch. We got lucky and were able to go to Game 5 and Game 7 in NJ when the Devils beat the Ducks to win the Stanley Cup--the stands were shaking and it was loud then!

Philly is a fun place to see a game, because their fans are so obnoxious. When you walk into the arena, though, there is a buzz and an intensity you just don't feel here. Anyway, hope things turn around for Capitals fans here :)

I am watching todays game at home and I must say the caps have dialed the intensity way up. The hits are harder, the skating is faster and they are sticking up for each other.

Even if they lose today(which they are not as of now) I will be happy if this energy continues the whole game and season.

Hopefully this isn't short lived just because they have a new coach. Certainly looked good against two dominant teams.

Hey Caps fans, what do you all think of their recent play ? This kid Mike Green just gets better and better, had an unbelievable game on Wednesday against the Rangers. I believe that they are now 6-3-1 under Boudreau -- makes you wish that they had made the change sooner since they really dug a hole with the slow start. Hopefully they can keep it going tonight against the Sabres.

Weds night game was a great game. Brashear going at it only a few minutes in. Overtime goal. Awesome.

They even looked good in their loss to the sabres.

I hope Semin gets going soon! Caps need to get out of the dumps! I'm glad to see a lot of scoring coming from non-usual suspects!

Did you watch the Caps - Red Wings last night ? Great showing by the Caps, and Semin seems to be on the way back with the game tying goal and a nice move in the shootout. The only disappointment was the horrid performance by Kolzig in the shootout -- he got beat with the same move by 3 consecutive shooters. He looked really, really old out there.

Save the first few games, but the Caps have looked horrible in the shootout since its inception a couple of years ago. Ovechkin is not doing well at all in that area. Seems to me a superstar like him should be owning the goalie here. Certainly an area they need to improve on!
I'm real happy with the way they are playing. They just seem to be skating to the puck and are playing with a fire under their :censored:. A fire they didn't have under Hanlon. Plenty of season left, but MAN, that's a big hole they dug. Schedule doesn't get any easier coming up either.

They looked good in the shootout last night, both Ovie and Semin looked great.

Also just a reminder to anyone thinking about going to the caps game this Thursday against the Toronto Maple Leafs, its a student discount game (everyone with a valid student ID gets 10 dollar upper level tickets and 25 dollar lower level tickets), its the last game before the All Star break and it is also Dollar dog night (hot dogs are one dollar and there will be a hot dog eating contest). So it is a good night to go to the game.

I don't think ANYONE expected the Caps to be one point from first place in the Southeast! What a season they are putting together. Heading to the game on Saturday with some friends. Can't wait! Here's to a GREAT and CONSISTENT second half. All hail Bodreaux!!!

OOOH, nothing like being a point out in that juggernaut of a division! ;)

They are also only 6 points away from being the worst tem in the Eastern conference.

The Eastern conference is pretty balanced this year with the exception of Ottawa (even they are .500 in their last 10). The battle for the playoffs should be fun to watch as I feel there will be 3-4 spots won't be decidided until the last week (hell, last GAME!). I do think the southeast will only get the division champ in however.

that's the problem with the southeast.....1st place in the SE makes you LAST place in the Atlantic....so if you don't win the division, you may not make the playoffs. let's bring back the ol' campbell/wales conference, and spark up the Patrick division with the Caps, Flyers, Islanders, and Penguins again. Were the rangers in there too? it's been too long.

If it is not on 227(Comcast Sports Network plus) you should be able to catch it on NHL Center Ice's free preview.

If openband is allowing the free preview, which looks like they are.
Free preview runs through Feb 3rd.

If I DO remember correctly, (and after doing some dorky research), last year and the year before, two of the five southeast division teams made the playoffs. Two years ago Tampa Bay was only two points away from being the THIRD southeast team in. Wait...haven't two southeast division teams one the cup since 04'? Ahhh, yes, that's right!
While it's NOT a powerhouse division, there IS some talent and I'll take where the Caps are cause they haven't been there in a while! Just need to finish it off.
