I hate to start this, because I can't be sure, but we ate there on Sunday and about an hour after getting home I started in with food poisoning symptoms. Before anyone tells me thats too quick, it's not. I've researched it extensively. It's also not a stomach virus. My husband and I ate exactly the same things all weekend, until Sunday. I'm still not feeling 100%. Not looking for anything, just info and to see if anyone had a problem. I know it could be something as simple as one piece of contaminated ice, so who knows if anyone else had a problem.

I ate there Sunday morning. It was tasty.

Sorry you are feeling bad. Stomach virus or whatever is never fun!

A stomach virus isn't fun, but this is definitely food poisoning from the symptoms. My husband ate with me and ate something different than I did and he didn't get sick from either the food or me and he catches everything. I'm the one that rarely gets sick.

I had a friends who got food posioning in HS, she went from a size 6 to size 00, since she could hardly eat anything. Hope your case is not too bad. Might go to the doc to make sure.

Oh, I'm getting better. I couldn't keep anything down the first 36 hours. I'm just exhausted now. Low grade fever broke last night and while I'm not starving, I am a little hungry so I'm able to eat some. I wish I started at a size 6 lol. I've lost a whopping 4 lbs. I've had food poisoning one time before when I was 12, but I was only sick for two days then.

I hate to admit this as well... but I got e. coli poisoning from Anita's. I also went through the same thing with narrowing it down... my husband and I ate the same food all weekend until Anita's. It was extremely painful -- I felt a stabbing pain in my stomach to the point where I was bent over at the waist in serious pain. I am glad you are feeling better -- it is not a pleasant experience.

No -- this was Spring of 2007 so a long time ago when we first moved here. I did go to the doctor who took some tests and determined I had e. coli.

We had a strange experience at Anita's in Herndon a few years back. After eating, we starting walking back home and my wife expressed mild tingling discomfort in her face and leg. When we got home, we lazed around and watched TV until we went to bed. At that time, my wife said the tingling was still there, but went to sleep anyway.

The next morning was a treat. My wife's face was swollen as if she was in a fistfight the night prior. One of her eyes was swollen to the size of a golfball and exactly one have of her mouth was HUGE. She said the tingling was all over at this point and she was having trouble swallowing. Long story short: Went to the ER in Reston. They said she had a severe allergic reaction to something and could have easily died. We have no idea what she could have been allergic to, because as far as she knows, she has no allergies. Unfortunately, with restaurants, it's impossible to know exactly what it was... could've been food OR a cleaning agent. She's now armed with an EpiPen.

Our solution was to just not go back... too bad too, the food is great.

If your wife has an unknown allergy there are tests to determine what it might be. You can't blame Anita's for that.

We will continue to dine at Anita's every now and then. If they have a chronic problem handling food safely they will be shut down.

Really, I mean, no kidding? They have tests which can determine to what things humans are allergic? Well, I'll be... modern medicine.

No, seriously. I don't think anyone is blaming anyone for anything. I merely stated that Anita's food (or environment) has something unique to which my wife had a near-lethal reaction, a reaction that occurred neither before nor since.

It is my understanding (from someone who knows much more than I) that it generally takes about 8 hours for food poisoning to show up after consumption

No, I didn't report it since I didn't see a doctor and have no real proof (other than how I've felt all week). I checked the health report. They seem to be getting worse. Someone always brings up the 6 or 8 hour "rule" they've heard which is why I EVEN stated in my original post that I had researched it, geez.

I also have to be somewhat careful with allergic reaction to shrimp (gastrointestinal so limited to about 6 excruciating hours) which is why cross contamination can be a real problem which is probably what happened to Ken's wife.

Just watched a segment with Dr. Nancy Sniderman on The Today Show talking about how salsa and guacamole can be tainted because of the soil they were grown in with e coli...but as a food sits out at room temp the bacteria grows. Did you eat salsa and guac? Regardless it appears keeping hot foods hot, cold foods cold, saying no to the 5 second rule, etc. can keep you safe.

BTW, I had food poisoning on vacation in FL after eating at a department store's restaurant, eating their tuna salad. HORRIBLE!!!!!!!

I'm happy to report that we had breakfast at Anita's on Sunday...It was delicious and no after effects - except being way too full! - were noted.

You could have had staphylococcal food poisoning. Staphylococcal toxins are fast acting, sometimes causing illness in as little as 30 minutes. Symptoms usually develop within one to six hours after eating contaminated food (usually cream based but not limited to it)

Foods that are associated with staph food poisoning include:

    • Meats.
    • Poultry and egg products.
    • Salads such as egg, tuna, chicken, potato, and macaroni.
    • Bakery products such as cream-filled pastries, cream pies, and chocolate eclairs.
    • Sandwich fillings.
    • Milk and dairy products.

Depends on the bacteria but you can certainly become ill very quickly. Sorry to hear you got sick.

True, but I wouldn't want to be one of the unfortunate folks who helped determine there was a problem by getting sick. We ate at Anita's a couple of weeks ago and all was fine. Several years ago I got food poisoning for the first time after eating a chicken sandwich at the Old Dominion Brewery restaurant (now closed). Miserable experience. I was fine until we got home but while we were watching the movie about Johnny Cash I started feeling very bad. It was either the food or Mr. Cash... now I have a mental connection between the two. :-0
