A pretty "Smoky Gray" Himalayan is wandering around the tot lot behind Welby Terrace and neighboring bird feeders. It shys away when approached so I cannot tell if it is friendly or not. Will the owner please take him/her into the house? Thank you.

KT what makes you think the cat is not being allowed in the house?

    He told me;)

Actually, he appears scrawny and he was sopping wet the second time I saw him. Cats usually do not like getting wet.

He/she is still coming around - although I haven't seen him/her since the snow. But it showed up tonight (heard my shovel topple) and when I investigated found the kitty encrusted with huge clumps of ice stuck to it's fur. It was walking as if it has a broken leg.

If you are the owner, or know who is, will you please send me a PM.

Are you able to get him? Maybe bring him in from the cold until an owner is found?

He's very timid, somewhat responsive when I speak to him (moreless curious) but unapproachable. He devoured some food (would'nt go near the dish until I went inside).

I have a question related to this topic: neighbors of ours have a cat that spends all, and I mean all, its time outdoors ever since the family got a dog. The cat has been forced to search for food and shelter on its own. He's being fed on a regular basis by our other neighbors (three, at last count), but he also comes to our house and another neighbor's house (because they're identical) looking for food and ends up sending our own indoor cats into a tizzy. We've asked the owners to please take their cat inside, but it doesn't seem to be working. Should I call animal control at this point? What is best for this poor cat? I would take him in myself but my cat is old and frail and the outdoor cat can be aggressive (probably because he hunts for his own food). Suggestions, anyone?

It's so sad, esp. when the weather is like this.
KSW: If it were me and I had done all I could by talking to the neighbors and the cat is stll being mistreated, I would call animal control. It's not fair for the cat to be thrown out because they got a dog. The cat deserves a chance for a better home.

As for the Himalayan, I would call animal control for him also. Maybe they can set up a trap. Esp. if he looks like he has a broken leg. At least a vet can look at him. If he does belong to someone, they can claim him at the animal shelter.

Unfortunately, animal control will not pick up a (seemingly) stray cat but a dog, yes, for fear it may be vicious and attack someone. And if the cat is turned into the shelter and unclaimed or unadoptable, it will be euthanized. Although the shelter is trying to improve their kill policies, it's still a sad fate for many felines.

He shows up in the dark and will not come close enough for a picture even if I place the food near the house. He appears to be a light gray himalayan - beautiful when he doesn't have chunks of ice stuck to his fur.

He showed up last summer..it's always a possibility someone took him in all these years and he got away again. Was he a kitten when he escaped? What is his name?

He was 4 years old when he got away. That would make him 10 now. His name Alex. Where should I look?

I'm afraid I haven't seen him since my last post. He was in bad shape and may have frostbite since he wouldn't step down on one foot. He stays around the wooded area behind Welby Terrace and Harvest Green. I will continue to watch for the little guy or girl and report any news.
