I know a lot of you are upset with the service you are currently getting from Adelphia and Im only posting this here because we come here to get updates for CWC wireless network--because we hate adelphia so much..:) . But if you have Adelphia cable right now and have been seeing the same problems that hundreds others have since May 28th, then do what I did. I went down to the local office and requested that I be credited from May 28th to now. I got it w/no hassle or argument. Apparently the local office is upset w/the way this problem is being handled concerning the slow d/l speeds and severe latency.
I called the other day, went through 1st level support, then 2nd level support and kept hearing the same story....." They are not sure what the problem is, but they are woring on it..." Yeah, for 2months.....come on. I kept pushing back and giving them a hard time stating that I find it hard to believe that a problem this severe, lasting this long and nobody has a fix. Anyway, I got to a supervisor and he told me that they know what the problem is but that they can not fix it due to the company being in chapter 11 status. This made sense to me and I believed the man. What this tells me is that the problem will stay the problem until 1) Adelphia comes out of chapter 11 status, 2) the courts allow them to spend $$ to fix the problem, 3) Adelphia goes out of business (dont think this is the case) , 4) someone buys adelphia, or our local office and fixes the problem 5) we drop Adelphia and go w/CWC...I vote for "5", who knows how long it will be for anything else to materialize.
This is just to let you all know that you can get full credit at the local Adelphia office...they know its a problem, and its easy to get the credit....just have to drive over there. Good luck!

Tad off topic, but for TV myself and Eric just installed Dish Network. Got 3 rooms, one with a new PVR unit that works similar to TiVo. Amazing! Blows Adelphia out of the water, and in a huge bad way. The signal is sooo much clearer, tv picture window on the menu rocks, no ADS in the menu and when you press menu up/down it scans instantly instead of slooooooow with Adelphia. I won't go back even if Adelphia cut their prices for service in half.

They have a great deal going on til the end of the month, check the office over by KFC/Taco Bell for more info.

Continuing with the Off Topic --
May I ask how and why you chose Dish over DirectTV?
Going even further - is either better in getting HDTV signals?

Vinny, I for one went with Dish because of their current promotion... Get a dish installed as well as up to 4 receivers installed for $49.95. Substitute one of the receivers for a DishPVR (Tivo-like unit) for an extra $49.95. All of these are one-time fees. No monthly charge for the PVR...

Add to this, 3 months free service. Additionally, if you subscribe to HBO, you get CineMax free for 6 months...

The price was great for all the channels I'm getting...

All in all, it cost me $99 to get installed, including all receivers. I checked Direct-TV prices and it would have cost me much more up-front, and about the same, if not *slightly* more a month.

Finally, keep in mind that Dish Network has 'bought' Direct-TV and that in the future, they will eventually be the same 'company'...

As for the HDTV question, can't answer you on that...

Both my wife, as well as John's wife were ready to dump Adelphia months ago. This current promotion simply was the right time for us to do it...

And the PVR unit rocks. Not as good as TiVo, but its sweet. It automatically buffers 2 hours of live TV. You can rewind at any time while watching. It was a 35 hour hard drive capacity, can do commercial skipping and a bunch of other stuff. For an extra $50, you can't beat it! And the quality (mpeg 2) is very nice, I can't tell a difference between it and the non-PVR units.

Alot of people choose Direct TV for the sports package. Dish is more non-sports orientated. This may be a mute point if Hughes and Dish merge.

Quality of the Dish far surpasses Adelphia. Plus the install guys didn't try to steal $80 bucks from like Adelphia did!

    Dwarflord,

    Good idea, thanks.

I've noticed a severe drop in speed with Adelphia's power link service, I figured it was due to more and more people signing up. I was one of the first to get it. My neighbor and my brother who lives in Ashburn Farms noticed a major drop in speed as well. When I first signed up I was receiving 700kbps, now I'm lucky if I get 100kbps.

What was the monthly dollar amount Adelphia refunded you? I currently pay $80.00 per month and they told me about $16-$17 of that is for power link service. I thought it would be a little more than that.

So I asked them to refund $60.00, which they agreed to.

    Thanks

    Rob

    Banshee,
You probably have a discount package w/TV service. I only have powerlink svc and it costs me $45/month, I got $90 credit...:). It sounds like $60 should be adequate considering the package deal. Did you notice they didnt refute that powerlink svc. stinks...:) I noticed since mid of last week that they have now routed our traffic to charlottesville instead of to atlanta or fort worth texas because service is now the best Ive seen yet. I will still go w/ CWC because I need the upload speeds and reliability. Adelphia offers neither... . Glad to hear you got some $$ back, its the least they can do for us.

    Banshee,
Also, I used to get about 600k in download speeds until I edited my windows registry. I now get about 2.8 meg, based on internet speed sites. Here is the link I went to that showed what changes to make in my registry. I think the biggest difference was when I changed the MTU and receive size of the packets. Here is the link if you are interested...
