We have a big Mitsubishi tv - not flat screen. It's not working and due to it's advanced age, I've been told not to bother having it repaired. The problem is the convergence. Does anyone have any ideas how to get rid of it other than rolling it to the curb? It kills me to throw this thing away.

yes that is the most likely problem to occur with those sets. I have a Mits too, 55" and the convergence just went bad on mine too (about 6.5 years old). I can still watch DVDs on it fine, the convergence is only a problem on the TV input for now. The typical repair for something like this is $300-400 if a technician comes. If you do it yourself, the parts are not too much but it involves opening the TV, removing a circuit board that is soldered and then replacing one and soldering it back in place.

I thought about this, but do not see the long term benefit. The TV is so large by today's standards and the lamp is likely to go next and that is expensive too. I paid $5,000 for it back in the day so I am not sure I like that life cycle cost... oh well.

    TARGET PRACTICE!!!!

There is a recycling place in Sterling near best buy that might take it for free. You'll have to figure out how to get it there.

Best Buy has been having free delivery, setup, and recycle of your old set if you buy from them. Not sure if its still going on.
