I am a cyclist and I ride Broadlands and the W&OD trail often. I've worn a helmet since high school when I rode into the back of a van that stopped suddenly. I had a concussion and taken by ambulance to the hospital. A third to half of the kids I see in Broadlands do not wear a helmet when cycling. I'm sure these same kids wear seat belts and protective sports gear because parents and coaches require it. The county sheriffs have the authority to fine violators parents $25 which is more than the price of a helmet. Please set the example by wearing a helmet when riding with your kids and require they wear one, its the law.
