I'm helping my sister put together a birthday party for her son, who is turning 6, the end of this month. There will be about 24 kids (mostly boys but quite a few are girls). The party is taking place at a tennis/pool club so there is enough room inside the clubhouse as well as outside (great kids play area).

I would really appreciate any suggestions for games!

It's a Scooby Doo party so my sister thought about some sort of mystery hunt, in keeping with the theme, along with the games.

    Thanks

Make ghosts out of white plastic garbage bags and or sheets. You won't need that many.

Suspend the Ghosts from trees or string a horizontal rope to hang the ghosts from. Additionally you can mount the larger ghosts on stakes such as used to support small plants. Playgrounds also have great ghost hanging opportunities.

Assemble “Ghost Grenades” from balloons filled with Super Secret Anti-protoplasm Serum, which to the untrained eye may resemble tap water (try adding a little green food colouring to the Serum!)

In the best Scooby Do fashion, have “those meddling kids” defend against the marauding ghosts.

Just be sure to have the kids clean up afterwards as latex balloon parts are not good things to leave laying around.

    Much mirth. ;)

You can make your own bean bag toss game. Play musical chairs? Make some slime. Here is a website with some party game ideas.

    Balloon games

You could have a frozen t-shirt game.

    EASY SLIME RECIPE #1

    2 Cups Water
    1/2 Cup Cornstarch
    Food Coloring

Bring water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Add cornstarch, then food coloring while stirring constantly. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. This makes a messy slime that goes from liquid to solid, and is great fun to play with.

A scavenger hunt. Each spot holds a clue for the next spot ("ruh-roh!"), and each spot could have a pile of spider rings, glowsticks, stickers, enough for them to each get one at each spot, and then that doubles as their goody bag.
you could also make paper cut out bones (scooby snacks) and hide them around...then split the kids into two teams and have them look for bones. or you could avoid teams and just make the bones 2 different colors, say blue and orange, and if the kids find more orange bones then the Mystery Machine wins and if they find more blues then the Scooby Snacks win or something like that. (the kids aren't involved in the winning..it is just symbolic?)
They could decorate little pumpkins with Mr.Potatohead pieces, or with stickers.
They could play a game called "Scooby Doo, Where Are You?" and you could hide a plush scooby doo...maybe that could be the scavenger hunt name and they find the plush scooby oo at the end...then they need to get him back to the party before he misses his scooby snacks?
i think the possibilites are endless. just watch an episode of that show and make up games based on things they do. maybe have a big magnifying glass on hand to look at stuff up close...
and what about the harlem globetrotters episode? you could do a basketball game.
    pin the tail on scooby.
    sing the scooby doo song.

this is a fabulous idea. maybe you could use silly string (in a very controlled fashion) instead of the water grenades so the kids don't get soaked by "mistake".
foiled again! oh hey- there's a good one! "foil"ed again. do something with tin foil like 1 minute to make a dog sculpture or make a dog bone out of foil or something.

Of course if you hate the kids you could always force them to watch the scooby doo movies. But then you would have Child Protection Services to deal with for abuse to children. :)
