I do not know if it is a true report but social media has a black bear spotted at lunch time a few miles west of Broadlands.

Looks like a brand new development - probably his stomping ground once upon a time...

Last night bear was spotted rummaging a trash bin on Sperrin Court off Waxpool, opposite site Dulles Tollroad.

Please see the Broadlands Community Issues column. There was a smallish black bear in the trees behind Stone Hollow, moving towards Ridgeway, Saturday morning. No sighting since then.

I just spoke to Animal Control and they track the local bears by all the phone calls they receive. As long as the Bears run away when they encounter people they leave them alone. They feel this young bear is well behaved and probably currently north west of Leesburg by the river. They think there maybe a 2nd older one hanging out by the reservoir but as it is closed to the public they have not had any reports for a few days. If you are worried about they there is always Bear Spray. (I know what some of you are thinking, how do they get the bears to call in? Probably some 20 billion federal program!)
