I'm not "sold" on this whole black Friday thing. What did I miss? Is it really worth going out there? What deal(s) did I miss that were that good?

Did it ONCE! That was it. All else is done on-line.

    Forever.

    And all-ways.

I went to the Sterling Walmart at 4:30am because I had to drop off my folks at the airport that early in the morning. The line was as long as the entire store front plus an entire parking lane long. Some were almost trampeled as people rushed mostly to the electronics section. 32" TV for $398 was a popular item. I got 8" digital photo frames for $39, a portable 7in DVD for $49, and a Samsung 10 megapixel digital camera for $69. I thought those were good deals.

I just wonder, with the crappy economy, will we be seeing more and better sales the closer to christmas?

To get me to stand in line at that time of the morning, the store better be offering me a 90% discount :)

I'm with you Ozgood. I really don't need anything that bad that would warrent me standing in line and fighting crowds at that hour of the morning or any hour for that matter.

This is exactly what happened last year, unannounced sales throughout the holiday shopping period. Last year I got a laptop in mid-Dec from BB that was the same price but better (same manufacturer, better specs) than the "special" BF deal.

I don't do the Black Friday thing. Except for a few popular Christmas gift items it seems like most of the things can be purchased at other times for about the same price. Now, if you're looking for Guitar Hero, a portable DVD player, or something like that, BF is probably your best bet since those types of things are the "loss leaders" for the day.

I looked through the Toys r Us catalog before BF and only a few things were seriously discounted. It has to be more than 50% off for me to even think about doing the 4am thing. Otherwise I'll use my stay-at-home mom status to shop on the weekdays and avoid the crowds. Kohls at 8am is easy in and out.

*Don't forget to include TJ Maxx, Ross, and Marshalls in your gift hunt - they have all sorts of things, including toys and gadgets.
