    very sad... :( I know a lot of colleges require that students get the meningitis vaccine, but I think kids usually get it around age 11. I wonder if she got the vaccine or if this was some rare strain that the vaccine wouldn't have worked on.

    This type is not regularly vaccinated for. The vaccine for this sero-group B bacteria is very new and not widely available yet.
