www.verizon.net/fiber or google FIOS to find out about what they're offering. But FIOS has nothing to do with the RT. When they first started to roll out FIOS they said the Broadlands was getting it soon. I think that was Aug '04 but they soon updated their website to not mention any roll out dates for Ashburn. I know a couple people in Fairfax and Montgomery Counties who have it. They're also making a big push in Leesburg but I know a few people there who've had the new fiber pulled up to their curb but still can't get it 6 months later. So considering they still need to run the Fiber to our homes I don't expect anything in the Broadlands this year. :(

My buddy in leesburg got hooked up this week. My other in Burtonsville MD is having fiber pulled to the doorstep now.

The guy installing the house in leesburg mentioned they are pulling cable in ashburn 'now' (I haven't seen any around here tho). According to the field Verizon guy, they are doing Ashburn next. But like Pictor said.. I wouldn't expect anything near term. In Leesburg, they did the pull to the house almost a year ago.

He is getting 1.7megabyte/sec download tho.

Adelphia is starting to roll out their Adelphia Extreme package in Leesburg and other select markets. The speeds for the Extreme package are 16Mbit down/2Mbit up. The pricing will be the same as the Adelphia Premier (somewhere between 42 and 60 bucks per month).

My guess is Adelphia picked Leesburg so they can compete directly with FIOS. Will be interesting to see if they can keep these high speeds once Adelphia becomes Comcast or Time Warner.

Here are some links that have more information about it.

Is it true that once you get it installed you have no recourse to anything else for landline phone, because they pull up any copper that may be run to the house ??

when my friend in leesburg was hooked up, they asked him about his landline.. so he had a choice. He doesn't have verizon landland service, so he didn't care.

When they do the install, they install a new demarc box outside your house, and move everything into that.

A friend of mine wanted to keep his copper but was told that he couldn't keep it. So I'm not really sure. I know that they want to do away with all the copper but I don't know what they would do if you have a copper pair that's going through someone else. For example, I have two pairs with Verizon but another pair with a CLEC that's they lease from Verizon. I can see how they might cut the two Verizon pairs but I'm not sure what they would do with the third if they have a contract with that CLEC.
