Please keep me posted on this as well. I'm quite interested. Right now, my tomato and pepper plants are intersperced in my small yard. (The Cherry 100 has run its indeterminant vines up the ornamental patio peach - so it looks like a cherry tomato tree now).

However, I think we may need to consider some sort of deer, rabbit, fox, etc barrier around the whole site. That would eliminate the need for repellents and/or fencing around each plot. Perhaps we could get something into the HOA budget for next year (if we hurry).

(Note: The Clyde's Farm manager said his worst offenders are the groundhogs - but not much you can do about those.)

A community garden is brilliant. Put me on the list of advocates. Terri

Hi Terri. You are on the list. If you are interested in helping get the garden up and going, send me a pm with your email. We have 6-7 people who are now interested in being on the committee. As soon as the HOA approves this at the board meeting in October, we can start our planning.

I'm definitely in need of the community garden - check out my pumpkin vine growing up my tree! I ran out of room in my yard garden. I've started something new - vertical gardening! :pofl:

Some one asked for my email address and then I never heard another thing about this. I don't go online so very often, so maybe I missed something important.

Hi Terri. There is nothing you missed. I have a location that is a possibility from the the HOA board that we can look into. Unfortunately, I've been overwhelmed with EarthDay@Loudoun stuff the last month and hadn't planned on getting this going until after April 25th, the date of the event.

Hi - we're new to the neighborhood and just found this discussion. Please let us know when there's any info about a community garden. We'd love to have a plot if it works out!! We just moved back from San Jose, CA,and had been on a 2-year-long waiting list to get into a community garden there... We were offered one a month before we headed back to Virginia. Oh well!

Yes, that is correct. We need a planning comminttee to get together to discuss the aspects of the community garden. I was thinking that we should get together sometime in June at the Nature Center to discuss all the logistics of this. This is a long term project that will take many volunteers to be involved over the long term.

I have many of your email addresses already, but it you're still interested, please send me your email and we will set a time in June to get together. Here are some of the things we need to think about:

Location (HOA has a possible site for us. We need to see if this will work)
    Permits
Lay out (This involves so many things from the size of the spaces, to how many, to if we have raised gardens or not, etc.)
    Water source
Fundraising (we need to raise money for the fencing and landscaping around the garden)
    Impact for the community
Cost to renters of the site

    and so on...

PM me your emails if you haven't already.

The Broadlands Wildlife Habitat Committee is having a meeting and would like to invite anyone interested in the Community Garden to attend. Although we have many other items on the agends, we will be discussing the garden first and foremost.

    June 15th, 7:30 p.m.
    Nature Center

    Thanks!
