I agree! But many Broadlands residents vehemently protested it!

How could anyone possibly protest Clydes? I mean, their architecture is absolutely beautiful. And I am sure they solicited the opinion of residents as a great neighbor developer. I thought if the architecture was just right and you were a great neighbor developer, no one would possibly complain. Huh.

Obviously, some people prejudged my post and didn't really read it. I have long believed that there is the potential for this to be an outstanding project. I also believe that it could end up as an big mess. There was the same potential with Clydes (I loved this project) and the School admin building (not so much), but the odds of either project revolutionizing the way that subdivisions are built was minimal. The odds of either project being a huge negative for the community was there, too, but to a lesser extent than with the hospital.
Life is all about risks. Sometimes you take them; sometimes you don't.

Noise and late night hours were two common concerns. Even houses across the greenway were very much against the outside patio/etc because of concerns about late night music, bands, etc

    Dogood,

No matter what the project is there seems to always be NIMBYs who don't want anything anywhere. Clyde's was no exception. I attended several of the Clyde's design meetings and the complaints were unbelievable. One of the most outspoken complaints was coming from a small HOA directly across from Clyde's. ACROSS THE GREENWAY. Their major complaint was, get this, "noise". There was also a small group across from Clyde's in the Broadlands. Cliff outlined their issues. All boiled down to NIMBY.

There are a lot of parallels with the hospital site and the Clyde's development. With one major exception. The amount of money INOVA is throwing into this fight doesn't compare to anything that Clyde's had to deal with. Clyde's didn't have a business competitor organizing pseudo grassroots opposition. Clyde's didn't have a business competitor hiring lawyers disguised as "grassroot" counsel.

The good news is level heads are prevailing and working with the HCA to create a good neighbor. Buffers, entrances, landscaping, etc. All are things HCA seems to be willing to work on with the community.

Steve and Afgm, I was being sarcastic, sorry. Lee has told us repeatedly that there would be NO controversy over the hospital if they just had the right design and were a good neighbor developer. Apparently, this isn't so. Go figure.

You mean Bonefish didn't fund a marketing campaign to stop another fine restaurant from opening so close by? They didn't object to the new restaurant taking away skilled wait staff and bartenders from their restaurant? What about the fact that Clydes is a for-profit company that has fired staff before in other locations? What about the fact that Clydes was right in the middle of a quiet subdivision? I guess Bonefish doesn't care about Broadlands or they would have fought Clydes coming in.

There were also some Broadlands residents (some of our neighbors actually) that voted for Stevens Miller because he told them that he would oppose the hospital. That has changed, right?

While I don't have a position on the hospital, you are pointing out a few facts, and I thought would point out another one.

You are making the assumption it is a "fact" that he said this.
Stevens is careful about what he says and I truly doubt he said he would oppose it. I've also never heard him say he would vote for it, either.

Ditto, and I can say I've tried to get him to state he's for the hospital on several occassions and he's not committed.

Gyphon, drop the "i haven't made up my mind" crap. Nobody is buying it.

The sad thing you all would of already had your new hospital already and open, after what now, 8 years of fighting and litigation and the promise of more litigation depends who wins. Reminds a bit of the badly needed western high school years in litigation and at what cost. Loudoun badly needs another hospital and maybe it is time a third hospital corporation comes in and buys the correct piece of property that at least won't have a bunch of residents fighting it on top of INOVA. What a waste of money and time when you try to force misplaced development where it does not belong. That is the lesson to be learned here is the waste of time and money and lack of of a second badly needed hospital trying to force itself on the wrong piece of property and land use. Especially to those that bought before the hospital was proposed. Just think of the blasting and construction noise the nearby residents will possibly endure for possibly most of their lifetimes with expansion etc.

This would be a piece of cake for HCA and INOVA would not have had a chance in hell to stop it if they bought the right piece of property. The tallest building in the world is being built in a fraction of the time and that is an extremely complex project the Burj Dubai. The lesson to be learned in future development for loudoun is always look for the win win and be a good neighbor and that includes buying people out of their homes because of the years of construction will make their home less valuable. This is no simple office building going up and it has several expansions that we know about and a whole piece of property no one wants to talk about that will be most likely another massive building and more years of construction noise. This is no Clydes going up or school building but a very complex and massive and years of construction and years and years more of extremely noisy construction and trucks rolling up and down broadlands blvd for years and years.

Lee, have you ever considered blogging over at the National Enquirer? I am sure you would impress them.

Oh, I am not looking for a laugh, I am serious.

AFGM and I am serious you know I actually like and respect you and this has been one of the few if only issue we have disagreed on. I like your sense of humor even when you are serious about it :) I wish I could say that about a few others on this board, but hey they have to deal with demons first :devil2: I like your style you fight hard and tough but basically you are not mean spirited and don't take things personally. Reminds me a bit of the movie "The Bucket List" with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman who are both great actors. except we both act like Jack Nicholson in this movie :pofl::pofl::pofl:

Stevens was asked about this numerous times publicly and privately and I never once heard him say anything other than (paraphrasing) "if the issue comes up again, which I don't know if it will, I'd give it careful consideration."

Personally, I still think there are better locations for the hospital as far as the benefit of all Loudoun County residents are concerned. But, I still wouldn't mind having one down the street for me and my family.

This comment just illustrates you really don't read or listen to what I say.....just what you want to think.
