I think the widening is only from Broadlands Blvd to Truro Parrish and it is VM who ponied up. If I am wrong, I am sure Cliff can correct me. ;)

van meter has to widen from basically Truro Parish to Belmont Ridge. What the hospital is offering is the money to widen south of Truro Parish to where it is already widened in Belmont. And I believe I heard they will front the money to widen from Broadlands Blvd to the Greenway the developers on the other side of Belmont are on the hook for that amount but because of the slow down in home sales will not have it for years to come).

    Here's the layout:
Van Metre is currently widening Belmont Ridge from Broadlands Blvd to the Greenway to 4 lanes. They also have a 2-lane commitment to widen Belmont Ridge from Broadlands Blvd. to Truro Parish.

The other developments west of Belmont Ridge have proffers to complete the other two lanes from Broadlands Blvd to Truro Parish. Some of these proffers may not happen for a while, leaving the funding for the other two lanes of this stretch in question.

BRMC has proffered to widen Belmont Ridge from Truro Parish to Brambleton to 4 lanes.
This stretch of road has NO proferred money to widen it. Without BRMC, it won't happen.

    Update:
BRMC will pay for the additional two lanes from Broadlands Blvd to Truro Parish. They will be reimbursed for this amount when the proffers for the other projects along there are due.
So, if approved, Belmont Ridge will be 4 lanes from the Greenway to Creighton Rd in Brambleton.

How does this help if Belmont road from route 7 is only 2 lanes? Is this expansion being done for the folks who will use the Greenway to get to the hospital? Or is it being done so the folks from South Riding/Brambelton can make it to the Hospital? Just asking

It's being done to make the trip to and from Briar Woods H.S. safer for young H.S. age drivers. Along with other advantages.

Otherwise known as a bribe or concession in order to influence policy and get BRMC approved. Just being honest. It will be good for the community and everyone who drives on that road, though.

i would think of a BRIBE as something that benefits the decision makers but not the community, and a concession as something that benefits the community as a whole. getting a portion of a road built up will hopefully get the county to finish the job on the other end so we don't have a huge bottleneck issue on that road as a result of only widening a portion of it.

Point taken. Let's call it a concession, but not just an act of altruism for our teenagers. Just trying to be balanced, that's all.

Cool I love movies. Will this be fiction, non-fiction, or a Michael Moore docushocka?

I wonder if attendance/RSVP will result in inclusion to the list of CCB supporters.

I am a bit curious as to why Glory Days is hosting the event. It irks me a tad.

I confess I don't want to read the 2K plus replies to this thread so I'm going to ask a fairly uneducated question here:

Why is this such a problem for some people?

I lived in Frankling Glen/Franklin Farm area of Chantilly for 14 years and was not far from Fair Oaks hospital. I would regularly take a short cut to Fair Oaks mall by going past the hospital and never once saw traffic snarls or delays or witnessed crazy patients running around, nor did I run into any evil hospital gangs.

I worked near the Reston Town center for 6 years over 2 jobs, the town center is right next to Reston hospital as well as townhomes and condo's. I again never witnessed traffic congestion, or other bad things happening around this area. Hell there are 'luxury' apartments right next to the damn thing.

But like I said, I don't really know what the main concerns are here. Are they related to tax money being spent? Or something else?

Anyway, if someone can summarize the feelings of the pros/cons of this topic I'd love to hear them.

    thanks
    C

T8, why? d'you think it's bad biz to pick a side in a volatile community issue that has generated so much interest and a bit of venom now and then...? lol i think it's a smart decision, up there with having pro-choice or pro-life stickers on the booths and a firm stance for or against Iraq somehow worked into the menu... (sarcasm dripping)

During discussion with the Planning Commission during the last application, there was concern expressed about access to the hospital from folks along the Rte 50 corridor. The only route is the very dangerous two-lane Belmont Ridge. At the Planning Commission level, HCA declined to pay for any more significant road widening. They receive a recommendation for denial from the Planning Commission.

Prior to the Board of Supervisors hearing, HCA added in this proffer. This ensures Belmont Ridge is now widened from the Greenway to Creighton Road in Brambleton. This still leaves a stretch of "Belmont Ridge relocated" unfinished between Brambleton and Rte 50. It's a shame that Inova, whose hospital proposal on Rte 50 will be built next to Belmont Ridge relocated, did not proffer up any money to finish this missing piece.

The reason Belmont Ridge to the north was not considered was due to the impending proffers from developments that would pay for the widening to Hay Road, and impending state financing to Rte 7. Also, residents north of BRMC have easy access to Loudoun hospital.

Ohhh, I'm betting on the third option!
But I'm sure they will be fair and have depictions of 7-8 office buildings of 1,200,000 square feet and the rush hour impact THAT wold have depicted for comparison!

I'm sure they'll have lots of footage of the area around Loudoun, Fair Oaks, and Reston hospital showing what a horrible influence they have on the areas around them!
