We have been in our new home for a little over a year now and have Bruce hardwood flooring. I have only been using the Bruce Hardwood Duraluster cleaner on it, but it seems to have left a film on my floor. I contacted Bruce hardwood and they suggested their product called Clean and Strip to remove the duraluster cleaner. Did anyone have this same problem with their floor and use this "Clean & Strip" product? Any insight would be helpful - thank you!

if you don't find any answers here, the doityourself.com forums might have some info for you.

We use that same cleaner on our floors, but they are new so we haven't noticed any build-up yet, but definately interested in what you find.

We also have the same issues with our Bruce "Cherry" Hardwood Floors. I had to place a "special order" with Lowes for the Clean & Strip product, as luck would have Lowes duplicated my order.

I plan to apply the Clean & Strip this weekend and if all goes well I would be more than happy to sell you the extra Clean & Strip (I think it took several weeks for Lowes to get my order in).

Yes, please let me know if it works. I talked to Van Metre's floor subcontractor and he said to first try rubbing alcohol on a small area. If that worked, then the Clean and Strip should work. Well, it didn't work, but thought I'd try a small area with the Clean and Strip anyway. Didn't realize it would be a special order so please let me know how it goes for you. If it works for you it may work for me as well. Thanks!

since we moved in over a year ago...we've cleaned the floors with a gallon or so of water with 1/2cup or so of white vinegar. nice and clean! no build up either! i think i actually found that in the brochure of our hardwood floors they threw in the homeowner's manual.

Why would they suggest a product for their flooring then suggest another one of their products to remove the film? Sounds like a money making scam.

About two years ago I installed an engineered hardwood (walnut). A co-worker suggested I use Pledge hardwood cleaner and the floor still has its original luster. I wouldn't use anything else - then again it I guess it has to do with the laquer or finish that they used.

When my wood floors get that filmy look, I use Pledge Multisurface for Floors. It seems to remove the film and restore the shine!

Ok- I used and re-used the Bruce "clean & strip " over the weekend. It does seem to work, but you have to apply and re-apply the product (it took 5 applications) before we actually saw a difference. I called Bruce this morning and they explained it would take multiple applications - we used 4 - Qt containers and we are still not happy with the way it looks. Also the FUMES are very strong (ei- we applied the product on Saturday - all the windows opened in the house and last night I could still smell it)

IMO - it kind of works after multiple applications - we spent just under $25 at Lowes for this product - which was a Special Order and Lowes will not allow you to return it.

So, let us know what replacement cleaner you find... I don't want to strip the floor 5 times and get high =)

Well, since I'm about to give birth I don't want those fumes hanging around with a newborn, so I will have to try it later in the spring. Did you happen to ask Bruce what they recommend to clean with in the future? I would be afraid to use the duraluster again after having to apply several coats of the clean and strip to get a film off of it. And, are you still not happy with the way it looks meaning it still has a film in some areas or just doesn't look right?

Good call on the fumes. I called Bruce on Tues. their recommendation was:

    1) Allow the Clean & Strip sit for 2-3 Mns
    2) When the product dries, use a microfiber mop
    3) Use Floor Fresh

I laughed - and asked "so now I need to purchase another Bruce product - go figure.". The CS Rep explained that using other cleaners can cause a chemical reaction with the Bruce Duraluster product.

I'll update in a few weeks, my back & knees are still killing me from this past weekends project.
