The Loudoun Habitat for Humanity ReStore will tell you if they will accept something or not and for bigger items, they come pick them up.

I started taking things off of the curb on trash day to avoid the landfill. I refinish the pieces and donate them to ReStore. But now that people have to pay to have bulk pickup, I don't feel right taking trash that they have paid to have picked up. Link: Finished For Good | Facebook

I wish there was a better way to capture usable goods before they go to the dump.

Sometimes the grass is greener on the other side and sometimes not. They didn't know that this "new" company would be good or not. However, in the future, there might be another company that may be better than Patriot...Perhaps our HOA may make a switch....maybe not. It all depends.

Sucks when a company goes under.

From what management told me while I was there dropping off old wood from my deck, they said that ALOT of trash from Fairfax is making it into our landfill because there is NO way for them to identify where the trash is coming from. They said contractors from Fairfax could be doing work in Loudoun and then taking the trash that originated from Loudoun to the landfill. However, they said that alot of them are finding it cheaper to haul trash from Fairfax and bringing it to Loudoun to be dumped then drive ALL the way back to Fairfax.

I did ask them if they check their ids...they said no, they don't. However, I learned that in Fairfax, they DO check IDs of those that drive in...if you have a business license from Loudoun, they won't let you dump in Loudoun. So if the business doing the contracting work is from Loudoun and they are doing work in Fairfax, they must take the stuff back to Loudoun even though the trash originated in Fairfax.

They told me that in ONE year, they have already ran out of landfill space and had to MOVE to another part of Loudoun to open up a new landfill site. So if this continues unabated without ID checking, we will run out of space YET again soon and will have to open up a new landfill area elsewhere in Loudoun. In my opinion, we need to speak up to the County to pressure them to change the rules and make them STRICTER blocking people from other counties from dumping on us and using our tax dollars. We need to be mindful that our tax dollars is serving other counties unintentionally.

They said they are thinking things through but I seriously think we need to be vocal and tell the Board of Supervisors to change the policies!

Wow, I thought mattresses were always free for them to pickup but nope, not anymore. A twin bed is $30 to have them remove. I didn't even ask what it would cost for a dead 40 inch tv
