I have been to both Spokes (Ashburn) and Bicycle Outfitters (Leesburg) and was was wondering if anyone had any other bicycle shop recommendations? Also, I will take any feedback on Spokes or Bicycle Outfitters either good or bad? Thanks.

They're both good... we've purchased from both. What kind of bike are you looking for? Adult? Kid? Racing bike? Mountain bike?

I had a very good experience with The Bike Lane in Reston Town Center. Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful, and good selection of bikes. I ended up with a Gary Fisher (now Trek) 29er mountain bike.

I recommend Craigslist.com. Many people buy high end bikes only to have them sit in the garage. They sell them 3 or 4 years later when they move for cheap. If you know what you want it will eventually pop-up there.

My kids are learning to ride bikes now and figured I should probably hit the road with them (and it couldn't hurt me to get a little exercise). I am looking for a entry level comfort/hybrid type bike. I have been to both places the last couple of days and have had slightly different recommendations, but the bikes (2 Treks and a Giant) have all felt really good while riding so I don't think I could complain. I am in favor of the Treks because the shifting seems slightly easier.

I second craigs list. For some casual weekend rides with the kids, there are lots of slightly used bikes that you can get for cheap. Just did a quick look and there are two Trek hybrids for under $300.

In that case, I agree with the others. Craigslist!

Bicycle Outfitters is great for racing bikes and high end stuff. I bought my road bike and my kid's bike at Spokes. But for something to just bum around the hood for a little exercise, those two shops would probably be a little pricy and not have a ton of inventory in that price point. But they know their stuff and are great folks!
