    (This is "Mrs. rharse" posting!)

Sadly, OpenBand took a message, said they'd look into it and call me back but they haven't done so. I just thought I'd see if anyone else had a similar issue.

There are certain sites that I can't access from my laptop. When DH (rharse) is home and has his laptop hooked up and routing through his VPN I can get to them. I have spoken with the host who had me ping various sites on the same server, and some I can get to, some I can't. He said our Internet connections are involved in some
"community firewall" where everyone is connected via the same box and that SOMEONE other than openband is in charge of the networks.

Do we have a site administrator or a community manager who blocks certain things, sets up firewalls I need to get through, or something? I understand that firewalls, in most cases, are set in place for child protection and whatnot, and trust me... I'm NOT looking to access X-rated sites!

Let me tell you where I'm trying to get. I'd be curious to know if anyone in Southern Walk can get to www.cest-bon.com or www.theotherforum.com.

Specifically, those are the sites I can't access. Any ideas?

Sure enough, I'm in Southern Walk and couldn't resolve either of those zones. I'm not sure I understand why they're blocking us, or our range of IP's. Seems that openband should be able to resolve the issue?

can you at least resolve the name? If you open a command prompt and enter

    nslookup www.theotherforum.com

What do you get? You should get 216.93.182.212

Then you should try tracerouting to it. In a command window do:

    tracert 216.93.182.212

Depending on many different things.. that may or may not get you showing you getting some distance towards the host.

If you are able to do a nslookup successfully, its more then likely the site blocking your IP range or potentially a routing problem. But if you can get to other IPs in the same network (say like the one ending in .211 or .213) more then likely its the site blocking you, not the other way around.

I don't know of openband doing any filtering

    Steve...

I did a tracert and got:

    Tracing route to server1.ilinkz.com [216.93.182.212]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

    1 3 ms 3 ms 3 ms 192.168.2.1
    2 5 ms 5 ms 5 ms 10.111.0.1
    3 6 ms 4 ms 4 ms 172.16.11.9
    4 * * * Request timed out.

    7 * * * Request timed out.
    8 * * * Request timed out.

    10 * * * Request timed out.
    11 71 ms 73 ms 71 ms server1.ilinkz.com [216.93.182.212]

    Trace complete.

I've had several people ask me to do that, but sadly I don't know what it all means. *blush*

I'm in Southern Walk and just clicked on your links and got them.

I don't know if this is related or not but OpenBand was at my house on Tuesday to replace some kind of box or router because I was constantly being told "no server" and having to restart the box all the time. I was told that this box/router thing is being replaced due to these problems so I don't know if that could be affecting you at all or not...but if you call Open Band, they'll check and replace it if you have the older model.

FYI I am in Southern Walk and cannot access your links. Calling Openband seems the thing to do, especially since Carol has access and I don't- seems strange.

I must apologize...I just now tried those links again from the "home" computer in our home (the one I do not use for work and with a VPN) and received the "no server found; page not available" message. But when I try the links from my home office computer which is hooked up via VPN they go through with no problem.

So sorry for any confusion! [:I]
