Does anyone have recommendations for a person/company that can do a relatively small fine carpentry job?

How fine, and how small. The 'how fine' question will give an idea of whether you want cabinetry, or rough buildout. However, the 'how small' questions is the one that will cause problems, as some 'fine' carpentry places don't have the time to do small jobs.

    Not really all that small.

I need someone to build a large frame, like a picture frame, on the wall in the foyer. I have seen this done with crown moulding type material. It is meant down to break down the monotony of a very large wall in a two story room, and to accentuate the tapestry that will go inside the frame.

So need someone who has enough interior design sense to not just slap it anywhere on the wall. :p

Have you given a thought to doing it yourself ? A mitre saw and some millwork picked up at Home Depot would do.

Sure have, but both of us have ... ummm ... 0 talent for this kinda stuff. We once tried to hang crown moulding and the results were ....well ...less than desireable.

But hey, I take volunteers :p

it's a wonderful opportunity to see how flat your walls aren't! I once (not here) had a wall so bowed, I had to use screws into the studs to make the chair rail conform to the curve of the wall!

on topic, there's someone who advertises in the broadlands newsletter that has the "no job too small" caption.
