Has anyone else been bugged by the people selling Carpet Cleaning door-to-door? Apparently they just stopped by....again. I slammed the door on the very same girl last week. Tonight she got my wife, who told her we still didn't need their services, and she said that they just about had everyone in the neighborhood signed up for their service. What a joke.

First she tells me their from Michigan...then she asks me what the highest traffic area of my house is...then she stepped on my threshold and peeked in the house like "show me where"...which is when i told her that i really wasn't interested. Then she tells me that i am interested. So i told her that it was time for her to leave....and since she's a funny person, she asks me for a drink---and then informs me she's just kidding. That's when the door shut on her.

I think it's time for the "No Solicitation" sign on my door. Once is fine (not fine--but tolerable)--but to show up a week later with the same attitude and load of crap. I wish our community would post a no solicitation sign at the entrance to the neighborhoods---it's working in my parents neighborhood.

Sorry to vent (and switch between present and past tenses).

There was a scruffy guy that came to my house, but I didn't open the door, didn't feel like dealing with them!

Me too. Last night. I just spoke to the guy out the window, without opening the door. He went away.

I don't even open the door when the bell rings unless it it's kids selling girl scout cookies, popcorn, wrapping paper, then I'll open.....

You need a no trespassing sign to be able to press charges against someone. A no solicitation sign does not buy you anything legally. It becomes difficult to press charges if you d onot have the sign posted. Last year someone would not leave my property. LSCO was nice enough to stop buy and give him a ride to jail.

There is a county law that requires solicitors to have a permit issued by the county. Ask to see it. If they do not have it, call the police.

These carpet cleaners are still around. We actually started to entertain the idea when the woman first stopped by a couple weeks ago because we actually do have a light carpet in one room that we'd been thinking about getting cleaned. When she said that they had to do the cleaning RIGHT THEN, we were busy and said no.

So they called yesterday and asked my husband if they could clean it that day - again he said no, he had something going on. But, a couple hours later the doorbell rings and there she is. She says "I noticed you were still home!" as if she were watching the house. This is just a bit creepy.

They're Kirby salesmen and women. Apparently, they "front" the operation by giving you a "free" carpet cleaning and then stay there all day trying to sell the Kirby to you.

Trust me, they got us. But all in all, we needed our carpet cleaned, we needed a new vacuum and I haggled him down considerably on the price. I actually think we made out pretty well in the end.

Not sure if they salesman got his bonus trip but we got a good vacuum with every attachment you can think of for a reasonable price.

I have heard that Kirby makes a good product, but I've also heard that they have very high-pressure sales. This woman who keeps visiting us is just unbearable.

we got it down to under $800 with tons of attchments- and out carpet DID need a good cleaning. if you DO decide to let them in, the best thing is to give them a time limit before agreeing- "i need to leave my house by (45 min. from when you open the door) and they CAN be done quickly.

but my mom has had the same Kirby for over 15 years and free replacements on anything that ever broke, so I always \knew I'd have one eventually...

Folks, PLEASE; If individuals like these ring your doorbell, ask to see their Loudoun County issued permit. If they cannot produce it right there, shut your door, grab a phone, and call the Loudoun County non-emergency number: 703-777-0407
If you can, give them a description of the individual(s) as well as information on any vehicles they might be using.

Until residents do this, and these folks (without a permit) get the Sheriff on their tails, they will just keep canvasing our neighborhoods, especially now that they have found people willing to buy from them.

This group does have their Loudoun County permits. When they knocked on our door that was the 1st thing I asked. I looked at it closely and it is the real thing. If they are making sales of any kind it will only keep them here in the area for who knows how long.
