Any of you techies out there hear anything about a virus that is making the rounds on major websites this morning? I cannot access several websites, such as washingtonpost.com, and I cannot log into my hotmail account. In addition, a lot of the links on ESPN.com's website are not working.

Thanks, brim. And you too, Homer! (Go Pats!)

Is anyone else having trouble getting onto www.washingtonpost.com ? I wonder if my problem is a local one...

Edit: I just got onto WP.com. I deleted all of the files in my Temporary Internet Files folder, and now it works. Could this have caused my problem? Maybe it was just a coincidence? Very strange...

I've not had any problems with either site. Could be something localized that went funky.

Hotmail had a big upgrade to their service today. I think it was down for a bit.

Not really, lots of adware/malware programs store themselves in this folder. You should check your machine using a good adware/malware scanner such as Ad-Aware and Spybot: Search and Destroy.

I use both, as one usually catches stuff the other missed. You should also go into Control Panel > Internet Options , and on the Advanced tab, scroll down and look for the Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed option and check that. The next time you use IE, it will clear out this folder when you close IE.

Better yet ... download Mozilla Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org), its FREE, and it doesn't have the same security issues that IE has.

The article talks about Lexus automobiles, not BMWs .. still rather scary. What is also interesting is the bit about how Bank of America's ATMs were infected when they moved to Windows.

They were using OS/2 for the longest time, and the ATMs just ran and ran and ran. I have no idea what they were thinking about when they moved from that to Windows. The only reason I could see is that they didn't want to keep some OS/2 programmers around !!

    Is OS/2 still being developed?

Sure, if you want to buy it. This place re-packages it from IBM and adds a bunch of applications. I don't think you can just buy OS/2 from IBM anymore. But I could be wrong.

FWIW .. the only machine I read email or surf the internet on, runs ecomStation (the repackaged OS/2). It also runs my home server/firewall. I've never seen the kinds of issues you get with Windows (adware/malware, trojans and viruses). And I know the drill, no one cares about OS/2 ... for which I am glad.

You can buy OS/2 from IBM, but you have to be one of their corporate accounts, and have a software agreement with them.

I was just refering to BMWs idrive system cause it may be Win CE. Hated using it. No wonder 7 series were dropping in price.

OS/2??? AMIGA DOS BABY!!! I know one of you geeks have an Amiga 1000-4000 somewhere in your closet. Like to buy a 3000 if anyone has one. 3000UX would be even better since I sold mine many years ago.

Oh and if anyone has a NeXT cube or station with monitor forsale, please contact me with a price.

    Teak,

How about an abacus monitor? I got one of those if you're into antiques.
