Anyone out there using a cordless mower? If so, what brand/model are you using? And, would you recommend? Or are any of you using a reel mower? My gas mower is slowly dying and I wouldn't mind switch to cordless but don't want to buy one unless I can get a full mowing in with one charge. Looking to go eco friendly here on a 0.22 acre lot. Thanks for the recommendations.

It isn't cordless but I have an electric one you can have for cheap. Works fine I just don't use it like I thought I would. I used to have a reel mower but it's really only good for very small townhouse yards. Unless it's your idea of good exercise! :)

I use a DR cordless mower that my mom gave me about 7 years ago when she upgraded to a newer mower... I love it for my townhouse yard... my mom has a normal 1/3acre yard and it works fine, it just might take a little longer to do since the width isn't as much as a gas mower. The nice thing is that you can talk to other people as you're mowing the lawn (that could be a minus for some people)! =)

    They're called Neuton mowers now:

They are powered by batteries you would normally see in a computer UPS system, too, which made it cheap when my original battery died.

Thank you all for the replies. I am looking at the Toro E-Cycler (non-removable battery) and the Black & Decker 19" cordless (removable battery) as they are the higher rated mowers on Consumer Reports. I do have less than a 1/4 acre (0.22 acres) and do not want the mower to run out of juice. I usually mulch but there have been times where bagging was needed and the bagging reviews on the electric mowers has been somewhat poor. What a dilemma?!? ;)

I bought this one in early Spring:

    http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...D28X-_-202051455&locStoreNum=8552&marketID=43

As long as the grass isn't ridiculously long (10"+) and/or very wet it cuts and mulches our .28 acre in a single charge with a little to spare. Just make sure you have it charged overnight the day before you mow. If the grass is really wet and you have to mow, set it up at 4" and you'll probably still be able to do the whole thing on one charge, you just need to make sure you push it for shorter strokes so you don't end up with tons of grass in there and slow the blade down too much.

Best mower I've owned by far, and I can mow earlier or later in the day and not feel like I'm being anti-social.

I've definitely been reading the reviews on both mowers on amazon.com and homedepot. They've been very insightful, however, I wish most people would say how large their lot sizes were so I can make a better judgement call for the purchase.

We bought a rebuilt 6 years ago on a 6-month trial and promptly returned it after one month. The 12 in cutting swath was actually less and we were forced to use the trimmer everytime we mowed. Then they came out with a new model with a longer blade but by then we had already purchased another mower. Yes, it's wonderfully quiet and no emissions!

I think mine is a 13", but yeah, it's definitely not for "larger" lawns... but it's awesome for our townhouse (end unit) yard!

I have a Black and Decker Cordless. It's great. I live in an end unit townhouse and can usually mow twice without recharging.

I finally pulled the trigger on the Black & Decker CM1936 (36V cordless) mower. I used it yestserday on it's first charge not expecting to make it through the entire yard (just shy of a quarter of an acre), but to my surprise it finished the yard and then some. It's much quieter than I expected and light to push. I had to go a bit slower than I would if I had a gas mower, but overall quite impressed. And, most importantly because these garages suck as far as space goes, it stores upright to save space :) For those of you doing the quarter of an acre thing I highly recommend looking at this cordless if you're looking to replace your mower.
