    Good morning,

My Family and I visited Curiosity Zone last night. i also checked out the website and Looks like it's a great place to take my 3 yr old daughter.

Anyone have experience (both good and bad) with Curiosity Zone?

Also...Can you recommend activities and or classes for pre-schoolers in our area?

    thanks,

    Mike

My daughter loves My Gym in Leesburg (across from the Costco). A very friendly environment and we consider it worth the drive, even with a Little Gym right next to the Giant here in Ashburn.

    http://www.my-gym.com/franchisee.asp?gymid=184

We've also been lucky enough to get to enroll her in swimming classes at Ida Lee but keep in mind that Leesburg residents get first priority. We did lessons once over at the Ashburn Village Sports Pavilion too.

The one bad experience we had was with a kids gym class over at Olde Izaak Walton Park which was run by Leesburg Parks & Rec (not Loudoun Parks & Rec). The class was advertised for 3-4 year olds with no siblings, yet there were barely walking tots in the class with their older brothers & sisters. The people running the class now have their own private kids' gym and had the gall to take the class rosters and solicit us to take classes with their new company. I did report this to Leesburg Parks & Rec as it's against their policy to have your information used this way.

During the summer, my daughter also loved My First Camp which was run by Loudoun County Parks & Recreation over at the Douglass Community Center - I've heard good reports from other parents concerning classes at the Sterling Annex. The nature walks and all out at Claude Moore Park are a lot of fun too.

And don't forget storytimes and special events at the library!

We've never been able to do the weekday activities with Broadlands (since they are all in the morning and my daughter is in school then but free in the afternoons) but I hear good things about those as well.

I second the Ashburn Library - that was one of our main preschool activities; before it opened we always went to the library in Cascades which is great too. My kids loved playing the educational games on the computers, then picking out and reading a bunch of books. We did the storytimes and craft times occasionally too, movies in the summer, etc.

Also if you know a few other families with kids around the same age, a playgroup that rotates among houses is lots of fun for the kids and they'll form lasting friendships more than they can in a classroom or sport setting.

I think both Curiosity Zone and Little Gym are great - my kids love them - but we've only been there for birthday parties.

The Curiosity Zone stuff classes seem to be run well and actually deliver some content. My 5yr old loved the few sessions she's done there

Our two year old son did a "summer camp" short program at Curiosity Zone last June/July. He really enjoyed it and I thought the "teachers" were very good. They did cool things like build little igloos out of sugar cubes, made little spinner boats and played with them in a baby pool, etc. My only issue was that a 30 minute class was too short---the kids were just getting settled in when, suddenly, it was time to leave. Due to that, I did not intend to sign him up for any further programs until he was older. Two things happened to change that--1. He kept asking me when he was going back to the "suprasopity zone" and 2. They increased class time to 45 minutes. We're signed up for their winter program which starts on January 30th.

Thanks for everyone's info. We're taking our daughter to Curiosity zone for a trial class tonight. And definitely going to look into Ashburn Library.

    thanks,

    Mike
