I have friends coming in to town over Easter vacation. They are doing the first big visit with their children in the DC (so all monuments, Smithsonian and such) and would like to stay in town. Can anyone recommend good places to stay that won't brake the bank in DC or could someone recommend anything outside DC but along the metro.

    Thanks

My family stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn at 14th and H - right by the White House, short walk to the Mall and Metro. It was a couple of years ago, so I don't remember exactly how the pricing was, but I think they got a good deal. Otherwise, a lot of tourists and groups stay in Crystal City - cheaper than DC proper, and only a short ride in on the Metro.

you can find some great deals at the palomar and westin in rosslyn for the weekends. both are gorgeous hotels and they can hop on the orange line from there, or walk across the key bridge.
