I just wanted to give a quick shout out to Mrs Z one of the owners at Del Rey. She was so kind to me today and it was so sad that I was the only one in the entire restaurant for lunch. They have some amazing salsa and chips that they make fresh everyday.
She was telling me about their Easter Brunch this Sunday. Since I had not heard about it I just wanted to pass on the word in case anyone was still looking for somewhere to eat. It will not be just your normal Mexican foods, but also ham, and lamb and other typical Easter fare.

Thanks so much for your generosity this afternoon Mrs Z.
We will be seeing you on Sunday.

    Staci

If their food wasn't so tasteless I would frequent the place.

Del Ray has the best Mexican food hands down on this side of the ocean.

Which ocean would that be? Last time I checked there is no ocean between the US and Mexico. Or are you being sarcastic? Del Ray is the most mediocre mexican I have ever had and I've had mexican in Mexico, California, and Texas as well as VA and MD.

well, they are still open, and SOMEBODY apparently likes their food, and so if you have never been- give it a try and judge for yourself. just because some of us our loud about what we like or dislike, doesn't mean your tastes are the same. give it a shot sometime, and post your opinion too.

:) think I'll change my name to Switzerland...

Right on, Redon! I find my tastes often differ from what I read on the forums. It's nice to get other viewpoints, but I never form an opinion before I try a place myself.

I think the problem is that everyone who I've met and read reviews from who have eaten there do not like it. SOMEBODY may like their food, but they are never ever full or even close. I'm not sure how they're still open since they seem to never be more than 1/4 full at most. Do you like them?

Okay, so who has eaten there and likes it?

unfortunately for us it wasn't so much the food, but the service was awful too!

when they catered Broadlands Live! last year- the chicken flautas were fantastic. when we went there for dinner once, the service was bad, the food was umm.... less than impressive. the margarita was pretty good though!

When I heard an independent, non-chain Mexican restaurant was opening there I was excited. After eating there about three times I'm not excited anymore. I used to live in Texas so I'm familiar with Mexican and tex-mex food and, while I didn't think the food at Del Rey was awful, it wasn't that great. Combine that with the fact that each time we were there the service was below average, and you get a disappointing restaurant.

The first time we were there the woman who owns it sat and talked with us for a bit and let us know that they are trying to give an authentic Mexican flavor to their food - not tex-mex. She was very nice and I wish her well but I don't think we'll be back there again.

Anita's has some controversy on this board about their food quality but I found them to be pretty good when I went. The kicker was that the prices were lower than many other restaurants, so my expectations were easier to meet. If I were paying $12 for a plate of enchiladas I expect them to be totally awesome (fer sher) but at around $8 as long as they are better than what I could make at home and the service is good, I'm happy. I'm not saying the food at Del Rey is expensive because I don't remember how much it was, I'm just saying that the food wasn't as tasty as I would have liked at whatever price it was.

I was going to say the same thing. At Broadlands Live their food was decent, but never ever has it been good when we've gone inside the place. We tried to give them a shot several times and every time the service has been sub-par and the food was blah. However, at Broadlands Live it I would have had seconds!

I've lived here since 1984 and I'm still searching for a great Mexican restaurant that is as good as I make at home, so we just don't bother going out for it.

Lately we've been eating at Del Ray 3 - 4 times per month. Service has been fabulous ; it's been a drastic change from what it was like a year ago.

I like plenty of cilantro in salsa, and their's is one of the best.

We have a few old favorite dishes, but in general, while it may not be the best, it is far from the worst Mexican fare we've encountered.

We'll continue to patronize Del Ray and are glad we did not give up on them last year.

They also own Manhattan Pizza, and they used to own Del Rio in Leesburg. I gotta beleive that they are using the income from these enterprises to keep Del Rey open.

Believe me, I wanted to like it!

i wanted to love it too, we are huge fans of manhattans, and continue to eat THERE regularly. i may give it one more try- who knows? our voices on this board have made other restaurant owners stand up, take notice and make changes... maybe Del Ray will benefit in the same way... :)
