Draining Water Heater

    How important is it to drain your water heater annually? I hear that it's important to do this annually but I spoke with one plumber who said that if you've never done it in the past, it doesn't make a difference at this point.

    I know most people don't do it annually, but I know believe it was a good idea. Mine was probably 5 years old when we did it, and the amount of mineral deposits that was in there was absolutely incredible. There was so much, I'm sure I didn't get it all out even thought I flushed it many, many times. I think for energy efficiency and the life of your heater, it is a good idea.

    When draining the heater, I imagine that the gas and the light needs to be turned off as well as the water line into the heater....
