Has anyone else noticed a foul smell in their water? Almost like sewage? A week ago we noticed the strong smell of chlorine when we ran the water. Now our washing machine, toilets and sinks smell horrible.

I've noticed it in the master bathroom faucet over the past month. It smells like sulphur for the first 15 seconds or so. I'm in Southern Walk.

I was going to post sometime this week to ask if anyone thinks the water supply has something nasty in it. We wash our clothes in the washing machine, even with super hot water in a freshly bleached cleaned washing machine, and if you take a kitchen towel... wet it, scrunch it up, in a matter of hours it smells like something really nasty, like a rotting fish smell. We've tried everything, but no matter what we do, how we wash, the clothes still have something in it which comes out when they sit wet for a while.

After trying everything we talked to some people, and they suggested testing the water supply, that may be the issue. Anyone else have this problem with laundry?

Yes - we had some of our pipes replaced a while back (VM had installed a few incorrectly, which caused a back flow issue resulting in the smell) the smell was gone - until last week when I noticed it in our laundry.

I called GE for our HE washer and they indicated it is a "source issue" (water source) - so I contact LCSA they need several complaints (in a concentrated area) before they will test the supply. :madcurse: - even after I explained have an infant using tap water for baths & forumla.

I provided LCSA link earlier in the thread - hopefully more folks will report the issue.

same here...we use the water for bottles and bathing. Whatever is in there has got to be a very strong and disgusting bacteria of some sort that is very hard to kill. The smell in the laundry is just unbelievably potent. We need to have more people write to them, or call, and just hope someone there does something.

UPDATE - I called LCSA back and spoke with a Supervisor to escalte the issue.

Here are the steps you need to take for resolution:

    1) call 571-291-7880
    2) request a WORK ORDER
    3) LCSA will send a sevice manager out to take water samples

LCSA has schedule a sample for our house today, they also advised me to use bottle water and not take a shower until further notice. I hope this helps.

We just got a call back from Loudoun Water. They have already received 4 complaints from Broadlands residents today. They are sending a crew out to flush all of the fire hydrants in the area. They may also have to treat water with chlorine.

Our washer has also been smelling foul and we leave the lid up when not being used. It's not in any one drain, it has been throughout the house. a week and a half ago, when I turned on the faucet, the smell of chlorine was overwhelming. Like a pool being shocked. A few days later, the sewage smell started up. On Lo. Water's website they say that a draw from the reservoir by Falls Church City may cause an odor. With the lack of rain, it may have churned up something funky.

Echo - I just spoke with Randy (Service Mgr) and he reiterated we should not drink, cook or bathe until the report comes back from our samples. ETA 24-48 hours...via a follow up call from Loudoun Water giving us the go ahead.

Needless to say if there is a bacteria - this might explain the digestive issues in our family for the past week.

Great. Shouldn't they notify everyone in the community somehow? I have noticed a problem with our towels also. Great, just great.

Not bathe for 24-48 hours.....yummy. I'll take my chances with the shower, but I'll refrain from bathing my newborn.

Should those of us with this problem still call them or do they have enough complaints already to take care of the issue in its entirety?

i keeeed, i keeed! nothing foul so far at Casa redon...

Not sure why we didn't think of it being the water supply before now, but I have to say this problem with our wet towels has been going on for months now. So it's definitely concerning that they are advising not to drink or bathe in the water now!

Look at the dates for the other threads that were referenced here...it's been going on for way too long! And to have plumbers say you're not cleaning your sinks...please. Like I live in a sewage dump. It's really irritating. I'm glad thepea called Loudoun Water.

I'm with you on the shower...after I explained the stomach issues we've had for the past few days, especially lil pea - they want to be safe.
